What's the point of ending a spot like this with "I'm .... and I approve this message"? If you didn't approve it, why the hell would you put it out there?

It's a legal requirement that came about around the '98 or '00 election season, meant to distinguish between official campaign ads and third-party hit pieces like the Willie Horton ad or Swift Boaters for Truth.
This whole "I love me some Jebus" stuff from Perry is obviously a poorly concealed political move, but I have been trying to remember if he's ever used this sort of religious rhetoric as governor... It's hard because I've done my best to ignore the man over the last decade--all I remember is him being foul-mouthed?
