Marcus Williams to GS for a 1st?

This is from a blog from the NY Post, so I don't know how reliable it is.

    Marcus Is Gone
    By FRED KERBER

Well, so much for fighting for his job.

Point guard Marcus WilliamsMarcus Williams , who recently vowed to fight for his minutes after the NetsNew Jersey Nets acquired Keyon Dooling, is headed to Golden State for a future first round pick. The trade will be announced later today.

The pick is lottery protected for 2011 – so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes to 2012, the pick is protected 1-to-11. It’s protected 1-to-10 for 2013. If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets s\get second rounders in 2013 and 2015.

Meh. Marcus Williams is a nobody. Outside of a fairly large jump in 3pt percentage, he regressed in nearly every other area his second year. Good trade for the Nets.

He wasn't going to get that much PT over Harris and that other guy they just signed anyway. Good situation for him and nets.

You knew he was done in Jersey when they signed Dooling. At least the Warriors have a legit PG on their team, even if he isn't any good.

    Marcus Williams

If you were joking, very good. :D

For some reason beyond me, my 13 year-old son likes Marcus Williams. Go figure.

wow! if the rumor is true, then GS gets robbed.

Marcus Williams is terrible. He splashed the ball everywhere on the court into TOs and he shooted the Nets out of the ball game. Almost everytime he got on the court, he murdered the Nets lead.

Golden State management has been on a downfall ever since they traded Jason Richardson.

New Jersey gets a TE of about, what?, $1.2 million, something like that? Enough for any of our castoffs?

You do realise they won 42 games with Jason Richardson, then 48 games without him?
    Clearly they didn't miss him...
Letting him go meant they could give Ellis more playing time, and that seems to have worked out pretty well for them.

It's at least arguable that trading JRich was a GOOD move: he is owed $40mill over the next 3 years and the Warriors would have been forced to let Ellis/ Biedrins walk had they kept him...

And it's hardly the managements fault that Baron Davis opted out of his deal (that's why it's called a PLAYER option) - but again, if I'm a warriors fan I'm happy enough that an injury prone guy who turns 30 this season didn't get a 5 year extension on an enormous deal.

I'd say that Warriors management was dead wrong when they gave Fisher that massive contract - but since then they've fixed those errors and put some young talent together.
Things could certainly be worse for them...

And even if Marcus Williams completely sux, he's probably better than a mid-late first round PG pick anyway...
I'll go out on a limb and say 'good pickup' for the Warriors! I think Williams will thrive in Nellie-ball - his assist:turnover ratio is almost 2:1, and I'll expect to see a spike in most of his numbers!

    Beats CJ Watson?

Yes - but they STILL don't have a roster spot for CDR, let alone our castoffs...

Well it looks like they won't be winning 42 or 48 games this year. I still believe they could of used J-Rich. Stephen Jackson getting suspended for the 1st 6 games of the year really hurt them.

Marcus Williams is one of those rare "pure PG's" with the natural instincts and court vision uptempo offenses need. No, he's not Baron Davis but don't be surprised if he puts up T.J. Ford numbers or better this year.

WTF! Marcus Williams himself is a mid-late first round pick. 23rd or 24th IIRC.

I wont trade a 1st round pick for MW based on his performance on the court.

The only reason ppl label M Williams is a "pure" PG is because M Williams cant shoot.

Should we even call this dude a PG when his AST/TO ratio is below 2:1?

M Williams is also not a uptempo guy. I dont know where u get your impression on M Williams except I can recall those comments from his pre-draft analysis.

Nelly will kill himself before he put M Williams on the court.

Umm they traded a 1st round pick for him so he will be on the court.

Let me put it this way: for how long?

it wont be long before M Williams becomes a fixture on the bench.

He's a pure PG because he has natural instincts and court vision that you can't teach. Didn't you watch him at UConn? His playmaking skills undoubtedly had to stand out to you. He's quick, explosive and handles the ball extremely well. There's no reason to believe he couldn't succeed in an uptempo offense.

It's hard to judge him as an NBA player considering he was always stuck behind Kidd playing 40 minutes a night. He's got the handle, he can get his own shot, he improved his long range accuracy to nearly 40% this year and is quick enough to run the fast break style of play.
