Ummm if that’s the deal, you do it. Whoever we draft at 10th is going to be an RGV for the entire season anyways. Cam Johnson is better than Dillon Brooks. But is Stone aware that you can trade for players and not just current 5th graders?
If the Nets are taking Jalen's contract then yeah this looks to be a pretty good deal for the Rockets. The most important thing here is that it clears out $10mil space for taking on a big contract like Giannis or KD or Jaylen Brown. Cam Johnson is a shooter so gonna work somewhere in the rotation, and he's paid not much money given how quickly the cap is going up.
I dont see a straight up deal that works and makes sense from the Rockets perspective. Im guessing a third team would need to be involved.
Who is our bad contract? Jalen, $33M/$36M for 2 years? (3rd year PO) Dillon, $21M/$19M for 2 years? (I did not like the signing, I was wrong, that is not a bad contract.) Are they sending out Dillon or Jabari or another forward? (Not even necessarily in this hypothetical deal.) They have a glut of forwards. CamJohn., Amen, Dillon, Jabari, Tari, CamWhit. CamJohn.: 2025-26: $20,543,478 2026-27: $22,500,000 29 years old, plays about 56 games per year
Cam Johnson is a reasonably good offend player, but he’s a negative defender for the past 2 seasons. He has shot the 3 pointer at 39% for his career, even last season he was at 39%. But he doesn’t get you many rebounds, only about 4-5 a game. Unless the Rockets really love what Cam Johnson brings them, it would not be an exciting trade as a Rocket fan. Plus the Rockets don’t have any bad contracts, to unload.
this guy would barely crack ime's rotation. he would make an interesting 6th man offensive punch option, but he honestly might be behind every current forward/wing on our roster. whos minutes does he take?
Supposedly both sides are after Giannis as well...... Brooklyn has to pretend they are doing something or they are doing something for real..... I don't think the Rockets are desperate.
Not too excited about Cam... I'd like that Philly pick though. #10 needs to go out for Durant or Booker.
I can support this trade if the following conditions are met: 1) the Rockets have worked out / interviewed a good percentage of the players who would be available at 10 2) Based on these workouts and all other information available, they (specifically Eli Witus) have concluded that Cam Johnson improves our chances of winning a championship in the next 5 years than any draft candidate likely to be available at 10. 3) There are no potential deals to get a more impactful player than Cam Johnson that would require the 10th pick. Just as I am skeptical of drafting a player who refused to work out for your team, I am equally skeptical of ruling out a top 60 draft candidate (or candidates) that you haven't worked out. Last year, the Rockets did not work out many players despite having the #3 pick - I think that was a mistake in retrospect, although it may not have changed their decision to draft Reed. This year, the Rockets need to get as many of the top draft candidates in for workouts before deciding to trade the pick downwards or away entirely.
Cam Johnson and #19 for #10. . . . . Hmmm. Intriguing offer. There will be plenty of good guys there at #19. I'll sleep on it.
