I wonder what is going to happen in the Nets camp. After Martin gets his offer from another team do they keep Kidd or match the offer for martin? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1831691
Apparently their new management team is in a cost-cutting mode. They even traded their 1st round pick this year for straight cash.
I think Kenyon Martin would be a great fit on the Nuggets. He would bring them some toughness and an enforcer type player that does more than just play dirty. He can actually play.
The Nets have quietly put together one of the highest payrolls in the league over the past few years, and only have 3 players to really show for it. And two of those three are approaching the end of their rookie contracts and want nothing less than the max. -They have thrown huge money at bigs (Dike, Zo) that couldn't even start. -There's one more year before they'll finally start shedding some of the bad contracts (Kittles, Rogers, Mutombo-still on the books). -They were in the bottom 4 in the league for attendance. For their postseason success, that's just pathetic. And financially crippling. -Ratner knows he won't get decent financial return on the team until they get to Brooklyn. If that's going to be no less than 3 years off, why not shed the team down and save money? Evan
You make fair points! Those dead money contracts to Zo and Dike are killers. Although you could make an argument that Zo's contract should just be added onto Kidd's as getting Zo there was pretty instrumental in getting Kidd to resign. And the fact they have terrible attendence dispite the fact that the team is pretty good and has been over the last few years is a killer. I mean why put together a high dollar team if no one comes to see it? Looks like RJ is their only untouchable right now. If I were the Nets I would look to move Martin. There has been talk on moving him to Denver for Nene. That's the kind of deal the Nets need, bring in more youth and slash salary at the same time.
Why would they do that trade if they are cutting costs and Shaq is due about $60 million the next two years and wants a $100+ million extension?
Why? I mean if they are winning games now with a couple stars, why would Shaq bring in fans and revenue and at such an expensive price?
I hope you aren't comparing Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, or KMart to Shaq in terms of star power. If they got Shaq, they'd easily be top 5 in attendence next year (in terms of % of seats sold).
