Anyone have one of these? Do you recommend them? A friend got a 'free' one through sprint [he had to sign up for their internet service] He basically does not care for the Windows Starter [WinLite] I have seen some with Linux on it . . .was curious about it. I see they are about 300$ . . for an extra 100$ I can get a full laptop so . . . I dunno if i should bother with the netbook. I just want some thing small. . . doesn't have to be powerful Rocket River
Got one on Black Friday for $150 (Windows 7 Starter). They're good for web browsing and Microsoft office when I'm in lectures.
If all you do is chat, email, and read stuff on the web, then it's trendy and portable with a decent battery life. If you want to do anything else like work, play a flash game, watch Hulu quality vids, then it's smallish, underpowered, and woefully inadequate. Can't even recommend to your mother/grandmother because the screen is too small. It'll work, but it'll take noticably longer to save/open.
Got the HP brand from Costco. Good one for browsing and for keeping track of my expenses using a small app I wrote.
I have one that I use just when I travel so I can get online quickly and easily. It can pretty much do everything a normal computer does - except intensive graphics stuff. So its great if you just want to have word, excel, etc on it and just surf the internet. Yeah, a laptop isn't much more - but mine weight less than 3 pounds and has substantially better battery life than any laptop I've ever had (plus I got it for under $200).
I see some with WinXP and other with WinLite [Win7 Starter?] I am not getting good feedback from the WinLite ones XP is stable and usually pretty decent Rocket River
I have one and like others have said I only use it for browsing and Word/PowerPoint. Nothing too fancy. It's really light and tiny, I don't think I can even kill a small kitty with it. If you can get it for really cheap, it's not too bad.

Yup. We have a Dell Inspiron mini 10v running XP, and it comes in quite handy. We took it traveling to Mexico, and it was perfect: compact, lightweight, GREAT battery life. We used it to watch movies on the plane (DVDs I'd previously ripped to Divx), and it was outstanding. Throw an extra gig of RAM in it, and it'll handle just about anything short of HD video and FPS gaming.
Honestly I wouldn't buy one either unless I get it for free or dirt cheap (>100). I got mine from a bro-in-law and wouldn't have even thought about purchasing one before that. I would much rather spend a bit more for a nice laptop.
i have a 10 inch asus from last year. its decent, you can definitely watch vids or youtube on it. i have open office and windows installed. the newer asus now have the dual core atom processors. 2 gig rams and win 7. its good for travel i guess. i dont save much data on it and its cheap. wouldnt bat an eye if lost or stolen.
We have a Dell Mini 9. There's one thing that keeps me away from them above all else. The tiny freaking keyboard.
i have used mine for about a year and half now. it's a Lenovo with red cover. i am running Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it. i only use for browsing, music, and video. not gaming or anything. loving it so far.
I had an Acer AspireOne for almost a year and a half. I threw down Windows 7 on it, and boy that puppy could fly. I loved a lot of it, but I was afraid that it wouldn't be powerful enough for me when it came to all the work I had to do for my thesis. I eventually traded up to the envy 14 and gave my mom my netbook. She still loves that little thing. In the end, it was well worth the money I put out for it.
