If there's one franchise that has a rich enough lore for an RPG or a cartoon adaptation it's Magic: The Gathering. I've been aching for a cartoon or video game(, I don't count the crappy ones they've made so far,) of Magic ever since I got introduced to it back in fifth grade to fleshen out the story. You had to, practically, collect the whole set to get the full story and, as a kid, that wasn't exactly financially viable.

I personally would like to see a cartoon adaptation of the Tempest block which is right down the alley of high fantasy.

The game has been diluted so much that the colors hardly matter anymore.

I started playing at Beta, and picked it up a couple of weeks ago as some of the guys at work play.

The game has been dumbed down, IMO.

Amazing how this game still has legs. Every comic/game shop I go to seems to have events on Friday nights.

A new PC game came out last year. Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers

HAHAHA! You realize that this is THE nerd showoff phrase, right? I need to find this on a t-shirt.

Did not realize that, I just used to play it about 15 years ago, and have a ton of cards in storage, that I expected to see....like dual lands, or lightning bolts, fireballs etc...etc.....none of which are around anymore, and I just heard the Black Lotus is like $2500, or something, I am pretty sure I have one, and I know I have all the moxes....

The colors used to mean something.

    Blue - counterspells
    Red - Direct Damage
    Green - Big creatures
    White - Defense
Black - Offense and creature damage

Now, it seems that most creatures are colorless, and that there are equivalent creatures in all colors.

I used to love the game, and played it a ton, then lost interest as I got older, I think the last set I recall playing a little bit of was "The Dark"....."Legends" was the last one I played a lot of.

I had a discussion with my gamer buddy about the super old cards the other day- he said that lots of the original cards aren't even allowed in tournaments any more, just too powerful. He beta tested the game with some other nerds we know- apparently one of the designers had a house in Galveston, where they all lived.

One of the guys in that group sold the original green deck and used the $ as a down payment on a house. Freaking nuts!

(I realized that 'I was in the beta' was the go-to alpha-nerd phrase one day when I was talking to a guy in the comic shop. Funny, because all geeks, myself included, will pull that one out)

Those are old, old sets and the color distinction, I can say, still lasted, at least, until the Masques block, which was the last block I played.

The Gerrard storyline, for the few bits I could get, was really good, though. I don't know how careless Wizards of the Coast have been in developing their IP to just keep recycling Magic all these years.

That's just an online version of the card game. I mean RPG like Dragon Age.
