damn, if im playing for the Nuggets next year, first game, im sitting out.... First Voshon Lenard, now Nene
I really feel sorry for the guy. I don't respect him much as a basketball player, but this is bad. Sorry Nuggets4. You guys are my 3rd pick in the Western Conf without any changes, and I thought you could move ahead or at least equal to us if you could have picked up a solid SG for Nene & Miller.
Since I don't follow the Nugs, I'm not certain just how much this might really hurt the team. But on the surface, it could look very bad. Losing Nene's bench play might only cost the Nuggets a few games if the starters pick it up a notch. The big problem is, Camby and Martin are both good bets to miss 10+ games a year. Then someone like Najera would end up starting in those games. That's just plain scary if you're a Nuggets fan.
Just watching tonights game with the Nuggets vs Lakers. Melo just doesn't get it. That last play by him was Steve Francis dumb.
what the hell were either team thinking at the end of regulation/overtime. first melo takes a shot with friggin' 10 seconds left in a tie game and no shot clock. even clyde would've waited longer. then in OT, the lakers somehow let kwame touch it and then, for some reason, kwame decides he's taking over and does the same thing as melo and shoots waayyyyy early, with like 7 seconds left in a tie game. lucky for him they got the ball back and kobe took the ball from him ASAP and then hit the game winner. but how phil even let kwame touch it w/o explicit instructions not to shoot is amazing.
In related Nugeets news...Earl Watson must be thrilled with his decision to sign there. Two games, two DNPs.
What really sucks for Hilario is that he couldn't work out an extension with the Nuggets - they gave up about a week ago. Now he's going to be a free agent with the lowest possible value. My fav was just minutes into the game, when he had the ball with his back to the basket about 13 ft out towards the wing, and was completely oblivious to K-Mart (completely unguarded and under the basket) shouting at him for the ball. You could hear it on the telecast it was so loud. Evan edit - just checked it out: apparently, he turned down 6 yrs and 45 million. Now, my guess is he's facing a deal similar to Kwame's, simply because no one will know what they're getting.
Not really. I'm a pretty big Najera fan though. Nene has always been kind of a strange situation anyway. He should be putting up monster numbers, but never does. I will miss his toughness down low, but I'm not as worried about that. Like I said, I'm more upset because there goes our best bargaining chip to get a 2-guard. Don't get me started on that. I'm a big Watson fan. The pre-season game I went to he played quite a bit, and played damn well. I'm not a big Boykins fan. That was dumb. Period. But I'm wondering where the hell Scotty Brooks was on this one. Why run a play designed to get your best scoring option the ball a good 40 feet from the basket? Get him down low. Have Dre run the clock down, get it to Melo with 10 seconds left. The players certainly deserve their fair share of blame for the loss, but Brooks certainly didn't help the team. This and the San Antonio game just prove that Karl is earning his money. As for Melo, I think he just got frustrated. I watched the local telecast, so I don't know if ESPN's announcers pointed this out but George was just nailing him down low. But what Melo needs to learn is that if the officials aren't going to call it, then he needs to adjust. Can't blame Devean for that one. Melo was incredible against San Antonio and I think the back to back games, both of which were VERY physical (Bruce Bowen was, well, Bruce Bowen) and VERY frustrating for the Nugs caught up to him. Except for Camby, last night was not any Nugget player's "shining moment", that's for sure. Sadly, my biggest fears are coming to life. The team listened a little too much to the press about them being the "32-8" team, and completely forgot that they also were the "17-25" team.
That's what I was thinking. Nene was playing for a contract and this injury just destroyed his market value. He's lost tens of millions on that ACL.
This is why I said nearly every player coming off a rookie contract who is worth a max extension (Amare, Wade, Yao, LeBron etc) will re-up with their current team at 5yrs/$70MM instead of waiting 2 extra years for 6yrs/$96MM when they become an UFA.
With less depth on the front line, I just wonder if Karl will be forced to play Camby more minutes than he can handle.
That's exactly the impression I get with them. Well, from Anthony and Martin anyway. And I cant believe opposing teams put up with k-marts showboating (on their home courts no less!). Just give him one hard knock early on and I guarantee he will chill out. ..send him to Dallas, hes a cupcake too.
