I know school is about to start so I'm hoping I can get a decent deal when I go to LA Fitness signature tomorrow. They have a no contract policy and you pay by the month, so I'll sit down with a guy who is going to give me different membership options. The only issue is - I just want to use the pool (I'll be in Houston for the next 6 months). I already have a place where I lift weights and play basketball.

I'm trying to think of the different fitness clubs in Houston:

    24 hour fitness
    Bally's (none close to me)
    Lifetime
    LA Fitness
    FIT

What would be the best option if I was just looking for a pool to do laps in every day and time wasn't an issue? What are the key points I can hit on to lower my membership cost (such as only visiting one location, only needing to use the pool, etc.)?

    Thanks.

Don't you have a community pool somewhere? There's gotta be a simpler option to joining a gym if you just wanna do laps.

If you are negotiating with a woman it should be fairly easy because her insecurities about being in a position of authority in a male-dominated world will immediately make her both nervous and sexually attracted to you.

    Go get em' Tiger.

I looked into that as well, the condo I'm staying at has a lavish but extremely small pool. I would cover it in 2-3 strokes. One of my friends has a huge pool at his apartment complex but I can see myself getting kicked out of there since he's never home (doing his residency).

That's what I normally hope for, but I ended up talking with 3 men on the phone. Way too much testosterone flowing around among the sales staff.

I worked for 24 Hour Fitness and the best way to do it is run into a deal or special going on. Usually the best are during the summer time and holidays. (Labor Day being one)

IMO, they have the best prices as far as price and locations as long as you get a “Sport Membership”. Keep in mind that there are Initiation fees, first and last month fees, and activation fees to be paid up front so it will be costly when you first walk thru the door.

Although they can work with you if you need to make payments of some sort.

Check there website most of the deals on their page will also be the ones they are running in the branches. Sometimes the internet deals are better. Good luck! ;)

Good luck finding a girl that works there. I frequent 2 different LA's here, and the ratio of male to female employees are around 6-7:1

I paid less than $200 upfront, no fees, for a 1yr membership last year around this time.

That's another way to go, you usually do a 1 year deal to avoid the monthly withdraws from your account, **clear throat** they do double dip....

That would be great if you have all that money up front but you also have to renew the deal every year but as I said the summer is the best time to get a deal like this.

Lifetime fitness has a pretty decent staff men to women ratio. 3:2.

Isn't Bally's in bankruptcy again? You will never be able to cancel the contract, unless you fight for several months.

A former 24 hr employee once told me the best time to get a good deal/negotiate a good deal is at the end of the month. Don't know how true that is though.

No chance at negotiating at Lifetime besides maybe the activation and enrollment fee but then you are still looking at, at least $50 a month.
