If you are in Houston, have I got the guy for you.

His name is Reid Walker. He worked amp repair for Evans Music City for 30+ years, and is now out on his own. The guy is a Fender Amp Guru, I sheeeit you not.

I dropped off my 1971 Fender Twin Reverb that had been modded to hell and back and was turning into dust.

He completely reassembled the chassis, replaced the baffle, replaced all the pots and caps, replaced both front switches, repaired the reverb and tremelo units, re-did all of the point to point wiring, and put a new blackface plate on the front of it. It's now completely back to standard except for the plate (it's a Silverface amp) and the 2X12" 100 watt Celestion speakers in it.

It is a loud mothah. The speakers turn it into a Twin on steroids. It's a bit heavy for gigging (I need a rolling case for it), but great for twangy power chording guitar tracks in the studio.

The work cost me $400, but I could turn around and sell it for $1500 if I wanted to. I don't. I bought it used in 1981 for $200. Too much sentimental value.

If you need amp repair, PM me and I'll shoot you Reid's number. He's in the Heights.

    :)

Thanks RM. I will keep this in mind.

I have a Fender amp that has this static sound coming through that I need to eventually check out. I bought it almost 15 years ago from Evan's.

My Dad also has a Fender Twin that needs some work.

Niiiiiiice. I need to get my J-bass set up and Id like to get my Fender Bassman 10 checked out. Its a 74 I believe and still has that killer tone that most musicians dig. Guitar sounds killer, but I still think the bass sounds so precise - I wouldnt trade it for anything in the world. Might have to hit this guy up once I get settled down in a house.....

I was going to start another thread on this, but what the hell...

I bought a new acoustic the other day and when I press the 3rd fret on the b-string, it plays an E flat instead of a D. The same note as the 4th fret. Is there a way to fix this? The 3rd fret is fine for the other 5 strings, just the B-string is ****ed up. Very annoying!

Also, several of the notes up high sound like a sitar instead of a guitar, if that makes sense.

The guitar definitely needs a setup. Might need a bridge adjustment. I take my guitars to Lone Star Guitar in South Houston. They are on College Ave. just east of I-45 south.

cool - too bad im in austin. ive got a 72 bassman that needs some work. i did buy the amp in houston at a store on westheimer, just off montrose-cant even remember the name anymore, but it was on the 2nd floor. ive had it for 10 years and have never had any repairs done to it or even changed the tubes. i dont even use it anymore for gigs, but im not selling it - tone is too good! there really is not another amp that can beat it in that department.

fortunately for us fender-philes in austin, there is a dude named mike who works at music exchange on northloop who is known around these parts and the fender amp-repair man.

sounds like you need the neck/rod adjusted or the bridge. new guitars arent supposed to have those issues! i hope you bought that thing used.

are you sure that isnt a d# :D (sorry - my weak attempt at music theory humor!)
