We definitely need to work on our PF situation. If we do a SnT with Toronto for Mike James with our big TE, we still have our MLE and small TE. We could trade away Jho for Miles, cuz Jho is no good to us. With our MLE we could grab Chris Wilcox or split it to get either Buckner, or Murray, and Jeffries. Then with our small TE we could get Clifford Robinson, who is a warrior, and can still play 82 games a night. He will be able to stretch the defenses. But if we choose to get MIke James with our MLE, we could still get Wilcox with our big TE. I really want to get Wilcox and Robinson and ship away Jho, but I think we also need to add one more shooter after we add Mike James. Well this is my frist time ever posting a thread.. so please don't diss my thread that much.. its just an idea..
I think Wilcox would be a great grab, but seeing how athletic big men are going these days I'm not sure if we can get him. From what I hear Seattle will make a big push to keep him. Has anyone considered bringing in Cato to play some PF? I think Battier/Cato at PF would be great, and if need be (especially with Deke not getting any younger) he can play also play C? Thoughts anyone?
We are NOT getting Wilcox. He will either be resigned by the Sonics for above the MLE, or he will be S&T to another team. Keep in mind that another BIG, Nene, just signed a 6yr 60M offer. What does Nene have on Wilcox? Rockets still need another PF on board but it's not going to be Wilcox.
That's more reasonable. Not a sexy name by any means, but he is big and can shoot to stretch the defense. He did well in Sacramento. You could probably get him via half the MLE assuming we didnt already use the MLE on Mike James.
I like Songaila too, but I think at this point its overkill. With Juwan Howard, Chuck Hayes, Ryan Bowen, Shane Battier and Steve Novak, signing a 6th PF who is not a clear starter is overkill. Sure Songaila has energy and can shoot, but what can he bring that Battier, Novak and JHo dont bring already? I would try and be more resourceful with the MLE given that we will have spent 15+ Mill on the PF spot alone and still lacking the identity of a starting PF. Greg Buckner and Reggie Evans with the MLE. Re-sign David Wesley with the vets exemption. Option on Lampe. PG: Mike James | Rafer Alston | Bobby Sura SG: Greg Buckner | David Wesley | Luther Head SF: Tracy McGrady | Steve Novak | Chuck Hayes PF: Shane Battier | Reggie Evans | Juwan Howard CN: Yao Ming | Dikembe Mutombo | Maceij Lampe
I deubt wesley will be back, evans is looking to resign with the nuggets, and lampe is already out. Plus I really think Hayes is a power foward, while battier is a SF, and i really like to see TMAC at the sg position, I think he will be more comfortable against smaller players.
Not even for the vets exemption? I think its a cheap investment for someone that knows the system and can offer some veteran leadership.
I'm sorry.. but I think I've had enough of Wesley, but I do liek the idea of getting Songaila. He's pretty good, and could come for cheap.
if Battier is our 4, Tmac is our 3, and we need a SG ... if Battier is our 3 and tmac our 2, we need a PF ... we dont know what jvg has in mind, so we dont know what kind of player we're after
But we have low-cost Hayes & Novak. CD said we're deep in the frontcourt we need some depth at guard position. If we can unload JHo and get a starter PF would be nice. But I don't think it's possible...
Personally, I like Tmac at the 2 a lot better. I know he hasn't done as well statistically at the 2 for the rockets, but facing smaller opponents who don't post up (as often) may keep him in better shape, especially with has back issues. Battier and Novak would be a great pair at SF, so our biggest need would be a good PF. IMO, a good PF would no doubt help Yao a lot and allow him to do so much more. I think Battier/Cato or Cato/Juwan at the PF would be interesting, and Cato could probably be had fairly cheaply.
What's up with you people thinking Battier can be the permanent starting 4? He can only play that against teams who play small ball. He can't make up for his height with leaping the way Shawn Marion does. Starting 4's don't fall from the sky. And if you think Juwan Howard, Chuck Hayes, and Steve Novak(more of a 3/4 specialist) is "depth" then I guess the Cavs have great swingman depth with Ira Newble, Sasha Pavlovic, and Luke Jackson. It's not depth if it's crap! I'm not knocking Chuck Hayes, but he hasn't proved a thing in this league as far as playing big minutes go.
