I am trying to make a simple webpage for my youth basketball team. I would like to use my teams name as the domain name, so I would have to purchase that somewhere. Im thinking godaddy.com. Next I’ve been told I have to find someone to host the website. Im clueless on this. Anyway the web page will be just a simple single page with the team logo tiled on it. A team picture, Players and Coaches names, the tournaments we entered and our placing, as well as contact info. I have someone that has volunteered to design the page for free, but I would like to make it as simple on him as possible as I know he is busy. He told me to buy a domain name and find somewhere to host it and then get back with him. Where should I buy the domain name and find a host??? How much is this going to cost me??? Thanks for the input!!!
You can register a domian at Yahoo for 5 bucks right now. And check if your ISP provide free webspace, I know earthlink and AOL does.
sounds like you need a free Tripod page or something... http://www.tripod.com (watch out for the pop ups)
You can follow these instructions, someone posted in one of the Rockets videos thread, seems like a pretty good deal for $10 a year, and I think that includes registering a domain name. I'm thinking about doing this one, mostly for the storage capacity. It seems pretty low on features. 2.4 Gb of space, 120 Gb of transfer per month in case you put videos or pictures up on there. http://www.sohailg.com/dh.html Another host I'm currently using is $40/year, and they offer easy install of image galleries, bbs forum, blog, content management, mail list, and many other types of software, but only 300 Mb of space, and 3 Gb of transfer per month. Their tech support was very quick, and I always got a response within a couple hours no matter when I sent a message. This is probably more feature-laden than you need though.
That sounds exactly what Im looking for, but also too good to be true. Does anyone have experience with it?
I did a google search on dreamhost and 777 (the promotional code) and a lot of people use it. The $10/year looks to be for the first year only, so that is "the catch". After that I assume it either expires or goes up to $8 per month.
Well, I bit on it. I hope there is no problem cancelling it or renewing the rate in one year. Thanks!
