Before you blast me for not putting this in one of the countless CSN Threads, please note that I have a contract ending tomorrow and need to make a decision but I wanted opinions of other subscribers first. Synopsis: Been with UVERSE for 4 years and last October I signed a one year agreement to lower my bill with them HOPING that a deal would come into play, it didn't and I watched all of THREE rockets games on national television because of it and it sucked. Disposition: With the contract ending I had to make a decision, and my wife is pushing for change because she wants to watch her Rockets. I contacted UVERSE first, they are throwing everything and the kitchen sink at me to stay with them. Pretty much the best they have to offer (channels, internet, etc) and I would pay 161.00 a month...with another 1 year agreement. Contacted Comcast next, explained what I had with UVERSE and what I was looking for, they could match the channels (with one additional channel that is MOST IMPORTANT) and have comparable MBPS for 178.00 a month. $17 dollars is not going to break me, but I haven't had Comcast since college and back then it sucked, maybe because I was poor and had the worst of the worst. Question: What should I do? I love Uverse and the speed and user friendly operation of it, but I can't go another year without my Rockets or Astros. I stood strong last year thinking I would prove a point and all I got was disappointment and a ticket to an Astros/Rockets game for signing a petition. I am to the point where I believe my hard-nosed not going to back down attitude is just like me hitting my head against a wall because at the end of the day no change is immanent. Stay with Uverse or switch to the evil empire?
Comcast. rolling with that TV/Internet bundle. 80mbs down and 40mbs up. HD Prefered service (Got that NBATV On point son!!!!!)
If you HAVE to see the Rockets, then you probably need to just do Comcast (they do still suck). They also charge WAAAAYYY more than they should for their cable service. I had comcast for a few years, but back in 2010 I switched to DirecTV and stayed with Comcast for just the internet. I currently get all the NFL games, NFL Network, Starz, the ability to record 7 things at once (2 DVR's), watch those things in any room, and 32MBPS of internet for $130. I obviously don't get to see the Rockets either, but I refuse to let Comcast take me to the cleaners like they did in the past. My hope is that DirecTV will come to an agreement and it will be worth it. I'm not sure if Satellite is an option for you or not, just thought I would chime in on the subject....
In the exact same predicament about a month or so ago, I stayed with Uverse. But if I were you, I would get Comcrap. Just be prepared for the crappy contractors to show up at your house and take 2 hours to get it working, if they can figure it out at all. I used to be a Comcast man, but when I moved their contractors couldn't figure out how to set up my place with service even though most of my neighbors had it. After setting up appointments with 4 different Comcrap contractors to get it figured out and not being able to, I gave up. Called Uverse. Guy came out a week later and had everything set up within 30 minutes. Reason I went with Uverse is they gave me a significantly better deal and only with a year long contract. Comcrap people weren't willing to give me the package I wanted at the price I wanted, and Uverse was. But since your deal is more or less the same, maybe Comcast would be best. BTW - how extensive is your package? U200, 24MBPS, 3 TVs with HD DVRs and I only pay $99/month. If Uverse quoted you at $161, I hope you get quite a bit more than I do.
Comcast's picture quality is definitely worse than Uverse, but their internet service blows anything AT&T has to offer out of the water. If internet speeds are important to you, Comcast is the way to go until Google Fiber decides to come into town and kick everyone around. If picture quality is more important to you, stick with Uverse. The tiebreaker for me would be the Rockets, so Comcast wins by default.
Comcast. Their TV service is meh, although I heard it's gotten better with the new X1 platform. If you get reliable Comcast service in your area, it'll blow away Uverse in regards to Internet service. It's rarely down for me, and I get over 100mbps down. Uverse doesn't even offer 50
I have U450, Sports Tier, Redzone and HD Tier...pretty much as much as they have to offer and 24 MBPS.. The LOWEST comcast has to offer was 30 MBPS but if I sign up they said I would get the 75 MBPS for 6 months.
I stuck with Uverse when they offered me a great deal about a year ago. I wouldn't do anything now, though, if I were you. Too much uncertainty on the future of CSN; and the chance for resolution (in this case, being forced to a head) is probably stronger now than it has been at any time prior.
Depending on your wife's level of insistence, you may not have a choice. If you want to risk your wife's wrath, take direct tv and wait it out. Logically thinking, comcast has no reason to make a deal until AFTER the rockets season begins, and they may milk the situation to get as may subscribers as they can before they ultimately cave. If you wait, you could end up with the best of both worlds. Spends some money on some season tickets to appease your wife and have faith.
Gave up our season tickets trying to have another child. Had then purchased already for the upcoming season and then we found out how much fertility treatment costs and had to sacrifice a bit haha
another option would be to you league pass. you can buy 1 month at a time and they may provide 2 weeks free. In order to do this though, you need to get a proxy program to get around the blackouts in your area. League pass has been cracking down on this pretty good so it is not the easiest process in the world but it can be done. For example, league pass doesn't allow hidden ips anymore, the process I used was to login to league pass and then quicly hide my ip and if you do it right you'll be able to see the rockets!
I'd say go comcast unless you just had a terrible experience with them, or someone else is willing to give you a significantly better deal. Haven't had any problems with them myself other than a DVR going out once, which could happen with any provider. Every provider is going to have some one who had a bad experience with them.
I switched late last year. Hated Comcast at first - am now in love now that they have the X1 box on Xfinity. Crushes UVerse plus I get much better internet. Have an amazing deal that is lower than my last Uverse deal too. Yes their customer service sucks. But the new interface, the internet and being able to watch the rockets/stros - I'm fully integrated Comcast now.
Comcast sucks. I'm with them just for the Rockets and I was paying $100.00 per month. Suddenly, my bill went up by $50.00 and they want me to sign a three year agreement to get it back down to $100.00. Of course, I b****ed enough that the bill was reduced, but just be aware that they're shady. I'm tempted to ditch Comcast and try out BallStream. Comcast's service isn't great. There are disruptions all the time in my apartment complex, so frankly, I'm used to calling and b****ing at them. Feel like I pay for commercials, and to speak with an outsourced call-center.
