Im looking to spend about $18,000 on a used SUV. No more than 30,000 miles that is a 2000 or newer. Ive been looking at the Isuzu Rodeo, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Ford Explorer, but am open to others. Any advice is greatly appreciated..... RM95 how is that Explorer Sport holding out for you??
It's been great so far. No problems whatsoever. I would let you test drive it this weekend, but I'm driving my sisters loaded Tahoe down there! Seriously though, go test drive one. They have crazy mad deals going on right now, and you may be able to get a new one for what you were planning to spend on a used car.
This is in the Chronicle Price: $18,000 Seller Comments:'00 Chevy Tahoe Limited, lded,1 ownr, new Michelins 45K, $18,000. 281.354.5194 I can't say enough good things about my wife's Tahoe....it's a great vehicle.
Aren't new Montero Sports around that price? or what about a new/slightly used Nissan X-terra? I think they may be around your price range. (Please don't get a yellow one though!)
Drew, stay the hell away from the Grand Cherokee. These are the sh*ttiest cars ever built. They have poor transmissions and drivetrains, and frequently break down. The 2003 Explorers are pretty nice. Also, like drapG said, you should be able to get a used Montero Sport or Xterra for around $15-18K. Or you could just save your money and wait for the Tahoe LT like me. The Tahoe is an absolute beast.
i've heard that...but doesn't the 7 year 75K mile standard warranty they offer now pretty much neutralize that concern?
My parents have a Grand Cherokee. Great car, never had a problem. Everyone's experiences are different.
You're letting your wife drive it? I'd keep it for myself. If you want to go all out, spring for the Z71 package. That is one sweet ass truck. It's got all the off-road capability, leather, sunroof, fog lights, and 17" wheels.
My wife's is exactly like that....except she has 4WD without the Z71 package (I think it behaves better on the road, and we've rarely needed the 4WD). It's such a great ride....we drove it all the way from the Texas coast to Canada a month after we got it. She drives the 'Ho 'cuz she thinks my diesel crewcab is too big.
I just bought a new vehicle.......drove many SUV's.....I did like the Xterra.......cheap too......Montero Sports were also great......didnt like the Explorer...I just got out of an Expedition though.......look into that Nissan though
I know nothing about the Rodeo, but the Trooper is a great truck. Great warranty, great reputation for reliability & durability. I've got a '98 with 50K miles - had to replace the starter 3 months ago but that's the only problem I've had so far. A friend of mine has had 2 of them ('88 & '96) & has had no problems either.
Test drove an Xterra last week and thought it was awful.... Drove like a Jeep CJ-7. Bouncy as hell, horrible acceleration, and the handling was jittery. I want to feel like Im driving something similar to a car feel. Of course I have been driving an '02 Nissan Altima around for almost a year now. I would keep it, but the damn thing is a 5-speed and my job requires me to drive and talk on the phone all day long. I will be driving approx 50-100 miles/day, so obviously I need 2 things: 1. An automatic. 2. Something that I can log a **** load of miles on. 3. Reliable. Also, fuel economy is a non-issue because company pays for that.
get you a plain Jane (not Yellow) and you can get new one for around 20,000 or a used one will be under 20,000
funny...i liked it.......i also have a 02 altima.....automatic.....great car...........wife drives that one though...............just go and get a used automatic 02 Altima....
