Guys, I just formatted my cmoputer and I have a tiny problem. You know how in your display setting, you get High color, true color, and 256 colors? Well, I only get 2 colors and 16 colors. Please, don't tell me to SWITCH it to the other, because I don't HAVE the others. I got to the display settings, and all I have is 2 colors, and 16 colors. What do I need to install to fix the color settings?

If you know somewhere I can go on the net and they'll help me, that would be great too.

    Thx.

Display Type, under the Settings tab of "DISPLAY" in Control Panel.

If you don't know what kind of video card you have...
    - look for any documentation your computer came with. The make of video card should be in there.
    - visit the computer manufacturer's website, it may have some info.
    - Chances are your computer came with disks/CDs that have the drivers on them already, so browse those... should be able to find the drivers there too.

Find out what video card you have. Asus, ATI, Voodoo..etc? then go to their site and look to download drivers for that specific video card. I am assuming you bought a retail computer, It should be stated in the manual or system specs somewhere.

and if you don't find documentation, you'll have to open up the PC and physically look at the video card itself... if it has no identifiable markings, there should be an FCC ID number, you can find the drivers using that number as well... the FCC ID is printed on the card itself... do a search in GOOGLE for those numbers, example: "FCC ID 4025" search for that...

    good luck

btw, I had that happen to me as well, doesn't 16 colors suck! how about that 480 X 600 resolution! great huh?

oh... if anyone wants to help me install my new ATI Radeon 7500 64 meg video card, I would love it... I have tried to install it, but my Dell has an onboard video card and there's some conflict cause my ATI won't work, suppose to 'disable' the onboard video and I ain't got no clue... i have unistalled all other video drivers and tried installing the new one, no luck.. it boggles my mind and my poor video card is collecting major dust... any ideas, ottomaton? outlaw? anyone?

Tried disabling it in the BIOS? I know mobos that have onboard audio have an option to disable in the BIOS, I'd imagine an onboard video mobo would have this option in the bios as well.

what he said...I had a Dell pc about 5 years ago and upgraded the video card. I was having the same problem. What you need to do is disable the onboard video card in the bios. Then their should be a setting that says something about primary video. Select pci or agp depending on the ATI video card you bought. Make sure you plug the monitor in the right Video card and it should work.

If that doesnt work, you might have to do it manually. Go into your device manager, find the video card, select properties, and hit disable. It should ask you to restart, then switch monitor cable again.

    Thx guys.

You dont know how much torture this 16-color thing is. All the programs remind you that your colors suck every 5 minutes. LOL!

So what does the video card look like? a card? or is that just what they call it?

it's the card that your monitor plugs into.

it's a flat card with circuits and stuff and a monitor plug on the end...

I'd like to say thank you in full, 24-bit TRUE color. :D

I fixed it. Turns out, all I had to do was remove it from device manager, then let it detect my card, then it would tell me what it is, then I could search it on the net and find the driver.

    GL on your problem RockHead.
