Moving from Houston to Vegas and I'd much rather have my stuff moved by movers instead of renting a truck and doing it myself... Any recommendations or tips anyone could throw my way?
For a move that long, I'd get as much insurance as you can buy. It's relatively cheap. Also, consider renting a small truck and hauling your valuable and sentimental stuff yourself.
crow so you are really moving!! thats awesome. we can have a clutchfans vegas outing sometime. i might have 1 more vegas trip left in me this year.
Cool...congrats on the move. And if I don't answer any e-mail for the football, post here or something...I rarely check that e-mail. But I am playing this year.
The real crux is how well you pack your stuff in the boxes and on the truck. For any move of that distance, expect at least a few dings and broken stuff. If you want your stuff packed OK and fast, a move company will do it. If you want it packed well with some semblance of order, best to put all the stuff in the boxes yourself. If you pack your own boxes, don't go cheap on the packing paper. Regarding the actual transportation, there's a relatively new third option which entails you getting a pod dropped off. You load the pod, a truck comes by and picks it up, then delivers it where you want it to go. I'm guessing these are cheaper than a van line move and probably on par with Uhaul and Hertz. So, if you don't want to drive some big rig across the country, check it out.
