Some time in the 1990s, I remember reading an article...it may have been in Rolling Stone, I'm not sure... Anyway, this article painted Eddie Vedder in a most unflattering light, basically calling him a liar about most of his life story. The article contained quotes from people who grew up with him, basically refuting much of the Eddie Vedder "mythology". Does anyone remember this article? I'm trying to track it down online, but I've not had any success. I don't remember for certain if it was in Rolling Stone or Spin or some other rock mag. I'm guessing the article came out around 1994 or 95. Even if you have no idea how to track the article down, is anyone out there familiar with the article I'm referencing? Any and all help will be appreciated.
I saw Pearl Jam at MSG a few months ago and they ripped the roof off the place. So he may be a poser or a fake, but damn they still rock the house.
It was a horrible rip job, using a five-year old photo of Vedder on the cover mainly because Vedder wouldn't give RS an interview. The one thing to take from that piece? Eddie was a nerd in high school and a surfer before he joined Pearl Jam. You know, two things that he told people over and over all the years leading up that piece. Fraud? Come on. It's like Rolling Stone expected him to have a long hair, brooding features, and a leather jacket when he was 15.
