Hello all. I just got a Playstation 2 video game system and I wanted to get everyone's opinion on what is the best NBA game for the system? I am mostly concerned with "game control" first, graphics second. Love to hear everyones positives and negatives about the games that are currently out there.

Any opinions would be most appreciated! =)

    Thanks!!

well there are a number of threads about this, you could do a search. I have NBA Live 2002, and have played NBA 2K2. I think both are very good in different ways. 2K2 has better gameplay, while Live has a little better graphics and franchise mode I think. You would probably get a good game either way, but I suggest 2K2. Just my 2 cents!;)

    Mduke,

Thanks for the information! I did as you suggested and searched for older posts on the subject and did find this one helpful thread:

    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27076&highlight=Playstation

Some interested stuff in there. From reading the thread it appears that most feel 2K2 is a bit better than Live 2002, although both games are good.

Can anyone tell me if this season's Rockets roster is fully represented in 2K2 or in Live 2002? Other questions, can you play a full season? trade players? are full season statistics kept? I got the impression that both games are rather easy which is cool.

Any other opinions on either of these games is much appreciated! Thanks guys!

I would go with NBA2k2. Overall, I've never really liked the Live series. It is a better "sim", but 2k2 isn't that far behind and I think the gameplay is way better.

Screw that five on five crap. Go with NBA STREET! There is not a better more addictive basketball game on this planet!

Best game overall is Metal Gear Solid.

Deuce: The roster is a bit more complete in NBA 2K2. Griffin isn't even in Live!

    - You can play a full season in both games, and yes, you can trade players.
-Full Stats are kept in NBA Live I'm sure, not sure about 2K2
In both games, if you play the "Franchise" mode, after each season you have a rookie draft"made-up players" and you have to resign your FAs, and if you have any cash, sign new FAs. This part is a bit better in NBA LIVE, but it is definitely not bad in 2k2.
    Any more questions?

yeah, NBA Street's good too, but it's not very realistic;) It's 3-3 streetball...

    Thanks for the information!

When looking at games I always look for "play control" first because no matter how great the game looks, how many features it has, if the play control sucks I won't play it. Sounds like play control for both games is decent but a bit better in 2K2 and Live 2002 has a bit better features in terms of the Season play etc. Oh, and Griffin being in 2K2 is definitely a plus! ;)

Damn it...if the Rockets can't win the championship in real life this year they sure has hell are going to win it in my virtual world! :D
Just as long as there are no "virtual migranes" or something in the game I think I am safe! ;)

With that in mind I probably will first go with 2K2 and see how things go with that. Heck, I might end up going with both but I wanted to get an idea with which game to start with and it looks from the above comments that 2K2 is the game to start with.

As for NBA Street...I have seen it and it looks interesting but I like the standard 5 on 5 play the best.

Thanks again for the comments everyone. If anyone else has anything to add to the discussion I would be more than happy to hear others comments. It is much appreciated!!
