I gave up my Hp laserjet 3 to my son in law and daughter yesterday, they needed a good printer for some project they are working on. Had that printer since 1993 never a problem. I guess you would do anything to help youre kids.
I have been looking at Brother and Hp laser printers.
Brother hl-1450 & hl-1650 seem like that they may be good, the
HP 2200dse look good also even though it is somewhat pricey.
I print a lot of page full small print pages.
Has anybody have any experince with these or any other printers? Would also look at an inkjet but would like to keep the printing cost down! I usualy print about 2200 to 3000 pages a month.
I have been using pricegrabber.com and pricewatch.com to search for prices. Is there any other site that I should try for price searching?
Any comments on printer would help.

I need a laser as well. I'd LOVE a combo fax/laser for my wife's business. She needs to print b/w only and needs good sharp print quality.

Oh, did I mention it needs to be USB Mac compatible! :)

Add www.shopper.com to your list. You can scan for computer hardware prices there, too. Look into the NEC line as they make some heavy-duty printers that fit a budget. BTW, what are you looking to spend?

I saw an brother Laser MFC-8500 demo Friday and it had very good small print. It also has Apple Macintosh listed for its use.
MFC-8500 LASER 15PPM 600DPI FAX PRNT COPY SCAN PC FAX
    Parallel & USB ports standard.
pricegrabber has it to your door for $409. From the techstore.com. Pcnations has it cheaper but they eat dog turds!

My HP 932 is the bomb!!!

I think they are only like $150 right now at Best Buy or something.

    Great quality.
    Super quick.
    Compact.
    Easy to Use.

Yes they are quite good! But when I talked to the HP factory rep he told me it just won't hold up under constant heavy use. He told me I would have to keep using a laser for fine quality small number printing. More durable and longer lasting.

    No Chance,

I'm not sure I'd classify this as a heavy-duty printer, plus I think the toner may be too expensive for heavy use, but the following is a printer I'm looking at getting to eventually replace my 7-8 year old HP 4L I'm giving to my parents :

    NEC SuperScript 1450 :

Thanks for the lead, I will check it out.
I like its paper capacity and the print resolution on it.

Noone has mentioned an Epson ? That's what I have, and it sucks. It's one of the one that loads at the top, so it's very hard to operate and is pretty much unreliable.

Call Computer Exchange (who I work for) and ask what we have...
Normally we have used HP LaserJet 4M's for around $200 that are going to be 10x the printer of one of those crappy little 'personal laser printers'.

    PH:713-529-6789

P.S. We used to have some used 4si's for around $500, which would be great. If you've ever seen one of these monsters, they are designed for real heavy duty. Something like 17ppm, 2 paper trays with 500 sheet capacity each, and changing the rollers takes all of 10seconds.

I'd LOVE to find a used laser printer/fax that has high quality output and can handle a pretty heavy load.

I read some very good reviews of the Brother MFC-8300 from people at offices and who use it heavily for small business. I'm glad this thread got started because I was originally looking at $1000 machines!!!
