Well basically, I just need to know how to share my files in order to get faster downloads because "faster uploads means faster downloads"

    And a few questions....

Are the download folder and the upload folder the SAME folder?

Does a download avg of 5-10kb/s sound right to you?

    P.S. I'm using Bit Torrent ABC 2.6.9.

I thank you in advance for any help rendered.

i refuse to help with illegal activity

(the upload/download is automactially handled by the bittorrent. you'll notice that generally your download starts slow, but it picks up as the download goes along b/c you start to upload what you have to other ppl. there are a few bittorrent programs that will let you throttle your upload lower, but not higher, as it should be maxed out by the inherent bittorrent architecture)

to expand - doesn't matter where your shared file is. you ONLY share what you're currently downloading. hence the variable speed - it gets faster as you go along, cause you have more of the file to share with other ppl.

5/10kps inital speed is pretty good. it'll pick up.

bittorrent is an awesome piece of computer science

What is a good bit torrent client to use? I am currently using BitComet but it seems rather slow, it took me 5 days to download Spider-Man 2. Also, what are some good sites to find all kinds of torrents? I know of SuperNova but where else?

File sharing isn't illegal in itself. Only when copyrighted material is shared is the law broken. Sharing stuff that isn't copyrighted is perfectly legal.

    another vote for azureus.

It's java based, so you should install the java runtime if you haven't already.

    http://www.java.com/

Also, make sure you open port 6991 to allow others to connect remotely to you. That will dramatically speed up your downloads. Google for "bit torrent port" to find better info about this.

5 days? Please tell me you're on dialup, because 5 days is pretty bad for a highspeed connection.

There's a way to open up the ports on your computer in order to make your download go faster. Someone on this board mentioned it but I don't remember how it went. Can Someone help me out with this.

And I'm using currently using Azureus because it's faster, but I'd rather use BitComet because I like it's interface much better.

Well that sucks. Maybe one of the tech-heads around here can help you out with that. I'm still trying to get a handle on this stuff myself.

I've used suprnova.org, but for some reason I have lots of problems with it. I find heaps of torrents, but most ofthe ones I want are just not available. I guess you really have to get into a "swarm" early or it is gone.
