Need help with a keyboard, synth, controller, midi?

    I really need some help from a keyboard player or recording person (I play guitar and I am not up on new tech)

    My son plays piano and wants a very cheap ($200-$250) synth/keyboard for Christmas.

    He wants to do some minor recording and play around with some synth qualities...

    He told me about a Yamaha DJX but they don't make them anymore and I think it would need software.

    I would like something with a USB, something he could play and also use to record songs.

    Any help would be appreciated.
