I don't know much about computers but I have a buddy who said he could get me the following brand new for $490:

    > Dell Latitude D610 w/ Centrino
    > PM 1.6HZ (2MB of Cache - very fast)
    > 2gb of RAM
    > 40 GB HDD
    > Internal Wireless
    > DVD/CDRW
    > Battery and Power Supply
    > XP Pro, Office 2007(Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Publisher, Excel),
    > Virus Protection, and Spyware Protection

Can anyone tell me if this is a good deal? Any information would be greatly appreciated. GO ROCKS!!!!!!

That's not a new model. The Latitudes are up to D630 now. Has it been sitting around in a box for two years?

However, these are great laptops, and it's worth $400-500, especially with Office.

40 GB hard disk is way too small by today's standard.

They always have deals on the Vostro line. Check out:

    www.hotdeals.org

    www.slickdeals.net

    www.fatwallet.com/c/18

And see if you can find any deals. Of course, me being the thinkpad fanboy, there are some pretty good deals on Thinkpads right now. About 700 something for a WELL equipped Thinkpad.

Thanks for the advice, so it sounds like it's an ok deal. I really don't use computers for anything other than the internet and I asked my friend if he will double to 80GB HDD and sell it for $500, if that's the case is it a good deal?

Man if all you're using it for is internet browsing, check out the asus eePC. That sucker is priced right for just what you only need.

This guy isn't a very good friend for trying to rip you off. You can purchase a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop with a Core 2 Duo with better specs for $600 new and you'll have a warranty. click here

This is only a so so deal Dell emailed me about. If you go to fatwallet, you can find even better ones.

I bought a Vostro 1500 three weeks ago for 754+tax (after 500 dollar coupon)

2.2ghz, 8600GT vid card, 15" SXGA monitor, two 6 cell batteries, 2 yr warranty.

    This rig supposedly costs $1250+.

There was another coupon that knocked down a 1k laptop into $650.

Last month my friend bought a T61 thinkpad with a sweet 30% off coupon. He splurged, but I would've bought a T9200 Penryn core, around the similar specs of the Vostro for 860+tax if I had money to spend a little extra.

Point is, there are a lot of deals for laptops that knock down 30% of value off of 1k+ systems. You can get a lot for 600 bucks.

The Vostro is monstrous though. It's like they melted down a 70s Chevy to build the thing.

If all the specs sound like gibberish to you, then what exactly do you want your laptop to do and how long are you going to use it?

Yeah, the friend is cashing in on your ignorance.

Congrats on the new laptop. I missed out on this deal. I recently sold my old laptop and plan on purchasing a new one in summer. Hopefully I can find another deal similar to this. I want the Latitude D430 12.1 inch laptop with the 9 cell battery that lasts 8.5 hours!

I was considering the Asus EEE 901?, but if I can get the D430 for $800 I'm sold.
