Alright guys I'm a junior finance student at Temple and I'm looking for something fast and memory isn't all that important. Basically I need it for internet applications as well as word processing and to do a few powerpoint projects. It would be nice if it was good enough for me to continue to use in the corporate world. (If anyone is crazy enough to hire me.) I went online and looked at Dell. They best they have is an Inspiron 8500 series but the fastest is a 2.5. The Inspiron 5100 looks intriguing, a bit cheaper and is faster at 2.8. Anyone who owns either of these or maybe works at Dell or anyone who just loves their laptop please inform an ignorant student before he blows his money on magic beans. And I'm trying to stay around $2,000.
I just bought the latest Toshiba Satelite. 2.53 ghz DVD-RW/CD-RW combo drive 512 Ram Nvidia Geforce4 440 video card 16" screen All for $2100....God I love Frys. Oh...check out this site for great pricing on laptops and hardware. Click here DD
You can get a 2.8 GHz, 512 MB, 60 GB HD, 24x CD-RW/DVD combo drive, 15" screen, etc. for about $1900-$2000 from Dell. Whatever you do, if you buy from Dell, look around the Internet for discount codes and coupons. You can probable save another $200 off the price above. On the Internet, these guys have a very good rating and you'll find configurations you won't find at big names like Dell, Toshiba, Compaq, etc. They have the Sager model with the 3.06 GHz Intel chip with Hyperthreading and a 16" screen with 1 GB of RAM for about $2200. If you don't mind the "name", and since many of the less commonly-heard-of laptops are made by the same people that make most of the Dells and Toshibas, you may want to look into laptops like Sager.
My suggestion is the Inspiron 5100, if you're a home user. You can wrap up the whole deal around $1800 with the CDRW/DVD combo drive, 512MB, 60GB HDD and 2.8GHz P4. It might not be a bad idea to purchase more than the basic 1 year warranty. The case fans do crap out eventually.
