Is this the plan? I see it says Simply September. I've been refreshing Power To Choose everyday hoping for a 3 month or 6 month plan to pop up.

Yeah that was the one. I wasn't really paying attention to the name I was just looking for a short term plan.

It's better than 8/12, when rates will be even higher. The longer you wait to lock in, the worse they're going to be.

My current 3 year plan is expiring in about a month so I am looking at new power plans. Surprisingly, the prices have fallen a bit in the last couple of months and are lower than I expected.

I see two plans that catches my eye on PowerToChoose in the Centerpoint service area

    APG&E 24 months plan
    Energy Charge: 5.833 c/kwh
    Monthly Charge: $8.95 /month
    CPE TDU Charge: $4.39+5.35 c/kwh
    1000 kwh average - 12.6 c/kwh
    2000 kwh average - 11.9 c/kwh

    Budget Power 36 months plan
    Energy Charge: 7.255 c/kwh
    Monthly Charge: $0 /month
    CPE TDU Charge: $4.39+5.35 c/kwh
    1000 kwh average - 13.0 c/kwh
    2000 kwh average - 12.8 c/kwh

The APG&E seems like a no brainer for my usage (about1000 kwh per month in the winter, peaks at around 2400 kwh/month in the summer)

I do wish there is a 36 month option for APG&E though.

I think the prices are 2-3 cents cheaper per kwh now than just a couple of months ago. If you signed a contract recently, it may be worth looking into breaking a contract to get on current prices.

EDIT: I don't see the APG&E plana at that price any more. Maybe the price got updated in the last hour. Hmm

Energy Ogre is pretty good as well.

I heard about this and that it was good. It looks like it essentially tracks and plays the electricity market for you based on rates, for $10/mo. Good for people who can't track their ****.

If you are a big residential customer, probably worth it. If you're small (e.g., living in an apartment) the savings might not outweigh their fixed monthly cost. But, if prices are in an upward trajectory, locking in a multi-year contract will be cheaper than Energy Ogre. They might find the best short deal out there, but they will end up following the market.

I was really surprised by the pricing in late August. Usually summer prices skyrocket and I was expecting to pay upwards of 16 c/kwh. But I was able to sign up on Budget power for 12.1 c/kwh for 18 months on 1000 kwh average.

I don't know the deep details on how Electricity providers determine what prices to offer for 1 - 3 years out, but current prices for Natural Gas are weak.

If Electricity providers use the price of Natural Gas as a key input for their pricing calculations, then that could be a major reason why current and potential customers are seeing reasonable offers for Electricity plans (at the moment).

I recently chose Rhythm energy as they have the best tiered rate plan to charge my whole house batteries for cheap after midnight (or your EV).

    Midnight - 6pm: rate = >6cents/kWH.
    Peak rate 6pm-10pm = at 23cents/kWH.

But I load shift so I run my house off battery during peak time. In the first month, I saved about $60 so that's about a $7-800 annual savings.

(But the best part is the batteries serve as a whole home UPS in case of a power outage. Oh, plus there is a 30% federal credit)

Which is better? Willing to try but would rather pay less if the service is equivalent

I signed up for this one in July. I cool the house down to 70 degrees by 6pm and the AC is off during the 6-10pm peak hours. The house stays reasonably comfortable and the AC is back on and cooling the house before going to bed around 11pm. I've gone through one billing cycle so far and it worked out well.
