Ok...I know absolutely nothing when it comes to golf courses in the Houston Area, but here's the deal:

I'm planning a fathers day gift. My Dad likes to golf on his spare time, but he usually just hits up the small family owned courses. For fathers day I would really like to take him to a nice course where we can play. Now I understand that we may need memberships at some places, but I know very about golf...so any help/recommendations would be awesome!

How much do you want to spend?
What part of town would you like to play in?

Here's my recommendations for the best public golf in Houston.

East side - Eagle Point Mont Belvieu $$

Near East - The Tournament Course at Redstone (closes soon for summer) $$$$

Near North - Cypresswood Tradition Course $$$

Tomball - High Meadow Ranch $$, Fish Creek $$$

    NW - Blackhorse $$$

    Katy/Sealy - River Ridge $$$

Sugar Land - Sienna Plantation is pretty good. Greatwood for cheap, I hear the newly public Quail Valley is going to be a value, haven't seen it myself.

    Pearland - Southwyck $

    Friendswood - Timber Creek $$

    Baytown - Evergreen Point $$

Memorial is always fun, otherwise I'd pass on the City courses. I'm not sure what's public in the Woodlands anymore, they changed it up but the TPC course is fun.

Get your tee time for Father's Day as early as soon as you can, the morning tee times will fill up. For a Saturday morning expect $50 -$90 per player.

Also... how good of a golfer is he? I ask because I once received green fees to Blackhorse as a birthday present. Beautiful courses, but they were so damn difficult, I didn't find myself enjoying it as much as I'd hoped.

    Cypresswood-Traditions course is nice.

Blackhorse is kind of a rip off

On the far west end of Houston, River Ridge is also a nice course
