If it's not one thing.. it's another. Things that take my time: Facebook Clutchfans Video games Computer games RealGM hanging out with friends sleeping TV series (i have whole seasons of them that i watch sometimes the whole day) its hurting my studies. i want to review but these things are always on my mind 24/7. Help me STOP being addicted to these things.
I feel your pain buddy. I wasted a whole Sunday today, while the weather was just perfect. The liste for me is facebook > wunderground > clutchfans > youtube > go eat something > repeat the cycle.
There is no secret formula to controlling yourself. You should just cut things out that are not that important to you. Pick a few items on your list and drop them cold, that will solve half of your problems, treat it as though you are quitting smoking. Nobody can "help" you with this other than yourself, if you want a bright future, you have to earn it with sacrifice, nobody is going to lay a red carpet for you. Make it happen. Good luck.
The INTERNET takes up the most of my time. Whenever I log onto the computer to do schoolwork I get distracted so easily that it takes me at least 2x as long to finish things. Sadly, I cannot be at a computer with internet access without being distracted.
Right! My serious advice: Make short list of chores/tasks to do for each day the night before. Write them down on a peace of paper. Do them the next day. Great way to feel possitive at the end of the way. Chores like grocery shopping, laundry, studying for 1 hour, half of the homework, etc. I personally have never followed this advice myself, but good luck.
-stop calling or answering calls from friends - set a certain sleepign schedule (10-6am, 12-7, etc) and stick with it. If by "sleep" you mean taking naps, than this should help a lot. I've taken like one nap the last 5 yrs. - stop doing anything that will be there later, like video games and tv series. Facebook and clutchfans is cool since it changes constantly, but unless you're ashton kutcher or daryl morey its not changing enough for you to be on there consistently. Log in the morning, check out the new stuff for an hour or so, log off and then come back before bed.
What's on facebook? do they have forums? I would look at shutting facebook down. Real GM? Not worth it. Unless your DD, why would you need to visit other bball forums? I have an account on spurstalk that an ex asked me to join, haven't been there in 2 years. I would look at shutting real gm down. Hanging out with friends? Unless they're female and offering services, I would shut them down. By cutting down on the three I listed, you will have more time to post on clutchfans and study!
Where do you live? The last thing I wanted to do was be out in the ****ing sun AGAIN today. I'm just fine crushing mini coors lights watching my DVR'd shows until I realize that Moday is tomorrow.
Don't try to "stop" being addicted to that stuff, just set limits on it. After the first semester of my freshman year in college, I had a 2.9 GPA and my parents went ballistic. Since I didn't want to be like the pre-med kids studying all weekend (and b****ing non-stop about it), I decided to just manage my time more intelligently rather than give up my nights or weekends. Since then, basically when I'm at school, weekdays from 9:00am to 4:00pm is work time for me. I go to class, pay attention and take good notes, and in the time in between and after class I go to the library and do all my work, studying, and reviewing. If I'm finished before 4:00, I get a head start on other stuff. Just by managing your time and not dicking around during the day, you end up doing twice as much work with about half the effort. You're always caught up on stuff so you don't have to spend hours and hours studying before exams, or pulling all-nighters to finish papers. And you get to do whatever the hell you want at night and over the weekend.
I know what you mean. I still procastinate like crazy. Also my biggest problem is I can't do my schoolwork without losing focus. I'll stop, do something, and then go back to doing my work. I think I might have ADD.
Asking a bunch of CLUTCHFANS how not to waste time is like asking Terrell Owens how not to attract attention or LeCrybaby James how to have good sportsmanship.
I live in the Southern California area. The high in Long Beach was in the lower 80s with a cool breeze. Back in college I used to never study or do homework outside of school. I got all of my "learning" done in and between classes. Outside of school all of my time was spent working part time at a minimal wage. It sucked. I didn't have any social life when I was in college.
Set a daily schedule and stick by it. Post it on your wall with big fonts so you can't pretend it doesn't exist. As others have said, you don't have to stop cold turkey. It's simply about setting limits. You MUST set at least some time each day to study. If you cram, you're screwed unless you're simply a lot smarter and more knowledgeable than everyone else. Personally, I'm the type who can't concentrate in front of the computer(and the amazing time waster that is the internet). So I always go to the library or an non-crowded coffee shop/restaurant to do serious studying. You'd be amazed how much more you can do when there's no distractions. Oh, and one last thing, Spoiler GET AWAY FROM YOUR COMPUTER/TV
I've had huge problems with procrastination but recently, I've been getting so much better at avoiding it after reading this book called "Self-Therapy". Here are some things that I've found have helped me deal with procrastination personally, they may work for you. Don't force yourself to do things! That's important. I've found that the more I think like, "Okay, I have to do this" is the exact instant the procrastination starts. Instead of that, I try to think like this, "Okay, I want to do this." It tough to do that for some things, I know, but I think it's unhealthy to be a slave to yourself through arbitrary schedules. When you create these unavoidable obligations, your natural tendency will be to subconsciously protest it by putting it off. It's like how when your mom goes "Take out the trash!" and you reply "I'll do it later!". That's your way of protesting. You can do it now. Or you can do it later. It doesn't matter. You can do it whenever you feel like it. You don't even have to do it at all. It's all up to you. You'll get a bad grade of course if you don't do it, which I'm guessing you don't want. You want to get good grades. You want to do your homework. About wanting to do homework, that'll be tough, I can't offer any advice on that if you don't like the subjects. But try to find some things in the subjects that you want to learn about. Make it interesting for yourself. Lastly, having structure does help (waking up at certain times, studying on a schedule) but just remember, you don't have to do anything. Only follow the schedule because you want to, because you want to learn more, get good grades, etc. You're not gonna die if you don't follow the schedule or study, just remember that. You get a bad grade. So what, who cares. Don't fear failure. Just try your best, do what you want, and don't fear the results. I dunno if any of that makes sense but I hope that helps.
Wow pretty sad you can't find one hour out of your day to get to yourself to study, that's pretty damn sad. Maybe you need to find a job that puts you in situation that all you can do is study.
