I called these guys in the Greensheet and had them do a bid on stretching the carpet in my house and cleaning it. The living room (40 sq. yards) had 9 years of wear on it, so I decided to have them replace it. I was quoted around 570 dollars and chose the same grade that I had and color closest to the existing carpet. The guy called me this morning making sure that we understood which carpet to get. I told him again. They brought it and was in the process of installing it, when I noticed that not only was it not the same color, but it was a lower grade. I had them pull it and finish the remaining stuff and leave. Of course I didn't pay for the new carpet part of the bill. Well... Now I'm staring at a carpet pad in my living and was wondering if anyone here had anyone that they could recommend that is honest and does good work. I'm still trying to prepare my house to sell (goes back to the breakup thread I created over a month ago) and there are only a few things left. This is a big one though, because I can't show a house with missing carpet. Can anyone help me out on this and recommend anyone. I need to get the hell out of this house. Are places like Lowe's and Home Depot good places to use? Thanks
Carpet Giant (although they have cheesy commercials) is awesome. First they give you a free in-home estimate. You go there, pick out something, they come install it the next day. Very friendly, and I have nothing but good things to say about them. My gf got a nice grade berber for about $1850 installed, they even removed the old carpet for free. This was 2 big rooms, closets, a hallway, and hollywood style stairs (kind of that open floating stair). Great job, and great customer service. These guys know how its done.
Thats $14.25, which is dirt cheap. You get what you pay for. You should focus more in the high teens, but not more than $20/yd. You can get a pretty high grade carpet and pad for that. If you have pets, make sure you get the upgraded pad. And if you get Berber, don't get the cheap stuff. I'd recommend Frieze. Its a twisted cut pile and very durable. It comes in every color imaginable and if you find the right place, you can get it for about $18/yd, or $640 in your case. Home Depot and Lowes aren't bad, but they are big on bait and switch stuff. Don't EVER pay attention to the price on the carpet sample. Its always much more. I learned the hard way about that!
