We just recently built a house - we did it on our own - no contractor So on Jun 4th we had Centerpoint come out and install the transformer and a meter. Our billing company is Reliant Energy. Today I get a bill for a period of 9 days - June 4 through June 12 The freaking thing says that we used 2286 Kwh in those 9 days ($315). We didn't even have anything running. I went to look at the meter, according to the current reading we only used 916 Kwh since June 12 (18 days). WTF...this has to be a mistake. I have a feeling that the meter was not set to all zero's or not calibrated when it was installed. I called Reliant this morning - didnt argue too much with them - they just told me to watch the meter....ooook I will be calling them back tonight because they should know better that you can't possibly use up 2286 Kwh in 9 days in a 2000 sqft house. Is there anything else I can do to dispute this? Do I need to call Centerpoint?
Has this guy been hanging around your house lately? you should check into the meter that seems impossible to go through that much in such a short time our energy bill run average like 90 bucks for 2 months worth, granted I live in a 3bd apt but with 2 other guys we use a lot of electricity
Based on the usage for the past 18 days, it appears everything is working properly and that there was some sort of problem the first 9 days.
My father in-law is the electrician. He wired and installed everything. He will check the meter again today before I call Reliant and Centerpoint. We are going to read the meter again today but if its reading correctly then I strongly feel that it was not reset to zero's when it was installed - how do you argue that point...you say no...they say yes..
I wouldnt tamper with it too much, call centerpoint to schedule a re read. Usually they can tell if something is wrong by looking at historic data. In your case, if it is a new meter, that might be hard, but they might still be able to tell perhaps what went wrong, or if it was zeroed out be4 u started using it.
Sadly, there's two things you can do: jack and sh**. I had this same problem a few months ago; one month was wildly off the mark, cost wise. They said the meter was working fine...and that was the end of it. It becomes an issue with your home at that point, and they won't have anything to do with that.
If you are talking about replacing a thermostat with a programmable one, it is generally quite simple to do.
You should just have to remove your old ones and connect the exposed wires up to the new one. The directions I have used in the past (that come with the new thermostat) are simple and straightforward.
I remember one lady who lived in a small apartment and her bill one month was $1500.00. Turned out her fan ran continuously.
I called Reliant and Centerpoint last night and initiated a dispute. It takes Centerpoint 2-4 weeks to process the dispute. Since this is a new meter install and we didn't have one mounted I am 100% sure that they gave us a used meter which was not at 00000 but on their paperwork for the initial reading they put down a 0 ... otherwise it's impossible to get to 2286 kWh in a one story 2200 sqft house and during that time period we didn't even have any appliances, TV's, etc... I looked at the meter and since the June 12th reading we only used 960 kWh and that is with all the lights, appliances, TV's, etc...Avg is about 50 kWh per day -- this is correct Problem is a lot of these workers come out to your house and want to get out as quickly as possible - they don't even pay attention to what they are doing and then you have to deal with the crap that they leave behind. If Centerpoint has any doubts they can come out to the house and I will turn every single electrical device on and they can measure they power usage so they can see for themselves that their reading is wrong.
Before you offer to do this, make sure it truly is not possible for the usage to reach 250+ KWh per day if everything in the house is turned on.
