I've been working for a legal software company here in town for three years and today has proved to be my tipping point. Crappy raises, ****ty bosses and nepotism has really pissed me off. I used to be able to shrug it off because of my hours, but no more. I need to update my resume, but I have vast experience in both customer support and working in/with law firms. I was planning on becoming a teacher this upcoming fall, but I still need to take one class before I can be accepted into the alternative certification program, so that's on hold, and could be indefinitely if I find the right job. Seriously, it's going to take all my strength just to not quit first thing tomorrow. Someone show me the light at the end of the tunnel!!
If you have experience working in law firms, you may wish to call the offices of the Chapter 13 Trustee. David Peake and William Heitkamp are the trustees in Houston. I don't know if they are hiring, but it's worth a shot.

RM95 -- email me. I work in Legal Technology as well, on the fraud-investigation side. I do computer forensics, specifically. It sounds like you might be a great fit for my company / line of work, with your background in legal software.
If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know. Nothing sucks worse than being in a job where you don't feel appreciated for your contributions.
In the meantime, if you do quit your job without finding another one (or if you just want extra monies) clinical trials pay well. www.clinicaltrials.gov if you're a healthy individual - do an advanced search, make sure you click PHASE I if you're not as healthy - you can search by indication, medication, etc.
I work in the IT department of a large law firm, but we're on a hiring freeze. We've lost a few of our developers to a company called Kiersted, so they might be hiring. They develop legal software. This isn't a recommendation, though - I don't know what they pay or what their benefits are like.
I should clarify...I don't have any IT skills. Thanks RMTex and UB. Vengeance, I'll e-mail you, but I doubt I'm qualified for that either.
Cool. I have a hard time turning my computer on at sometimes, but I'll give it a shot. I'll let you know once I have my resume updated. Thanks MM!
try not to leave your current girl until you have a replacement. I'll let you know if I hear of anything.
If I ever learned anything from peeps leaving their jobs and getting new ones... is if you're THAT pissed off at your job and want another one, do not let your current job know you're in search of a new one or found one...(unless the new one is a DONE DEAL). I'm with Faos... don't feel too proud to work at Mickey D's for a while... as a manager... or upper-level person...
Are people in Houston getting laid off left and right? The job market might be slowing, but its nothing like it was 2001-2003. Most companies aren't hiring, but not too many in Houston are firing either (other than Continental), right?
Well...consider me like UBER late to the party! How did all this turn out, Rocketman95? And I can only help if you are in NYC. After all the **** I went through in the fall, I actually have a wee bit of pull in some areas. Hope all is well! And shoot me an email if you want to do it that way.
