4 play in games each one to determine the #16 seed

i like that all the games will be shown across 4 major networks.

i didnt have the march madness thing on tv at home when i wanted to skip back and forth between games.

this is certainly better than trying to expand the field to 96

The 68 team field is even more stupid than the 96. Now 4 small schools are going to get screwed out of the Tournament experience they earned while more mediocre teams from the power conferences will get to be bounced in the first round.

is it though? i thought if you win your conference tournament you're in so if small school wins it tourney its more likely to be the 15th seed an in.

I would be upset if they made a tournament winner participate in the play-in game and I dont think conferences would stand for that since it lowers the significance of their own conference tournament.

we could see a 15th seed though actually be worse than a 16th seed now

The play-in game, played by itself in Dayton the Tuesday before the tourney starts, has been a matchup of two small-conference champions every single year since it was instituted. The lowest at-large bid in the 2010 tournament was a 12-seed, so I can't imagine any BCS schools would ever be forced into a play-in, even if there were 4 of them.

I'll take it over the 96-team expansion any day of the week. I'd agree that removing the play-in games wouldn't upset me one bit.

I think they should make it a rule that the 4 play-in games cannot be conference tourney winners. That way, you could get some of the major bubble schools to play in them, and viewers would be more likely to watch. I don't know anyone that has actually watched the play in game before.

I agree. Let the bubble teams fight to get in. The small schools did there job by winning there tourney

1.8 BILLION DOLLARS

    FOR 1 SPORT

    FOR 1 MONTH

The term student-athlete is repulsive. The correct term is unpaid employees!

Players should get paid, or at least a significant amount of money (10k-20k) if they graduate.

....and don't bring up that damn scholarship junk

    Why not?

You're kidding me right? If schools started paying their athletes, can you imagine the ridiculous parity there would be between power houses and smaller schools? There would be no Butler or any Cinderella b/c they would most likely not be able to afford to pay students

The NCAA should give athletes a piece of that pie( all schools who make the tourny). Coaches get theirs.

1.8 Billion just for a month?

    For 1 sport?

College football is even more for just 4 DAMN GAMES!!

Where did you get $1.8B from? $10.8 billion over 14 years does not come out to $1.8B.

The BCS Contract is $125 million per year, or less than 7% of your supposed $1.8B amount that you said the football contract was higher than.

Ernie Johnson was jizzing about this on Inside the NBA yesterday, probably knowing he'll be in prime position to land on an NCAA tourney studio show as well
