NCAA president Myles Brand died Wednesday after a nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Brand, 67, was diagnosed with the disease in January. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=4478889
Regardless of my differences with Brand he was a great guy and very good at what he did. He will be missed. But man, pancreatic cancer...... Somehow, someway there has GOT to be a way to cure this illness.
It's not as common as other types of cancer but due to the high mortality rate it still ranks as the 4th highest cancer killer in the US. It's basically a death sentence. Man, if I had the money to donate to research I would be donating constantly. For as advanced as technology is and for as smart as Americans are, I find it hard to believe that they won't figure out a cure eventually. As it stands there's no known way to prevent it and little that can be done to detect symptoms before it's too late. That's just unacceptable.
