Colt is "weighing his options." This is how it starts...

We have that 5 star QB from Lake Travis coming in but it would have been nice if he could have sat for a year.

We've seen a lot of this the past couple years with juniors. The big problem with this is that these so-called "advisors" can pretty much tell these kids whatever they want without having any fault.

I still think Colt will be back next year, but obviously a possible Heisman and possible Championship season could change that in an instant.

I, too, think he stays, but he'd be silly not to at least explore the information on where he might get drafted. I don't think he's a top prospect NFL QB, and I'm definitely hoping he stays for his senior year. 2009 is really supposed to be Texas' best chance at a championship. This year has just worked out amazingly well, too.

He has to go through this process if for nothing else than insurance purposes.

That said, if he wins a Heisman and a National Championship, he probably goes.

He has an opportunity to show some new things next year. Our passing game has been heavily reliant on underneath patterns at least in part because that is our WRs strength and our lack of pass catching TE. Another year of maturity from Malcolm Williams, the return of Irby to run the short routes, plus growth from the Kirkendoll, Buckner, and Collins to go with a few gamebreaker types we redshirted (Hales, Grant) and Colt can show the vertical game too.

absolutely correct. if you wanna insure that arm to come back for a senior season, you have to give some estimation of value.

I'm curious why some people don't see him as a big time pro-prospect? I always thought he was on the small side, but just learned recently that he's 6"3. Plus he bulked up quite a bit this season. Is the only really knock on him at this point arm strength?

the guy is an amazing player.. excellent accuracy, and a surprisingly great running ability, excellent decision making, etc..

    BUT,

if the guy limps off/cries every time a *college* hit is put on him, he won't last a single drive in the NFL.. let's be real here, dude looks like a junior high QB with his little chicken arms.. I don't think he'll make it to the pros. you gotta remember that he's enjoying the luxury of a badass Texas O-line giving him all the time in the world, and yet in the rare event of him getting sacked/hit, he cries/starts limping off the field (see: last night, tears coming down his face)

Most people don't believe that he's really 6'3. I've seen him on campus, and he doesn't look 6'3 to me.

I think a receiver everyone should be excited about now is Freshman Dan Buckner. Star in the making.

 He's Texas' leading rusher. He gets hit much more than any other top-tier QB except Tebow and has yet to miss a snap this season.

His problem is definitely arm strength. His deep passes are mostly floated up - I don't think he can throw the laser pass the way most NFL QB's can.

He better go now before Bradford, Freeman, and everyone send him into the 7th round. Actually there are enough QBs ahead of him already. Never gonna look good for Colt.

I would think his running days are over in the NFL. Bradford would still prob be the better NFL prospect.

Or maybe it was just an emotional and meaningful game to him. Not that hard to imagine, given the cheap shot he received from A&M a year or two ago where he had to be carted off.

Because he doesn't throw deep enough from what I've seen. I said the same thing about Tim Couch and you see how long he lasted.

    He's a tough kid though.

he stays. colt is not after money. he loves the college game and he knows he can be a texas legend like major applewhite/vy.

he'll be back, he saw what happened to vy, alex smith, rex grossman, matt leinart... etc. it would be idiotic for him to not admit that it's worth a look, but he knows he'll be back. i mean, come on, dude still drinks milk regularly. :D he's going to get his degree.

True, but isn't that something a strength/conditioning coach can fix? Seems to me you can make someone stronger: you can't make them smarter. And Colt seems to be a savvy, smart QB.

I believe his decision will be made based off of how the season ends. If Texas gets a chance to play for the National Championship, he leaves. If they don't, he stays.

I wonder how much of this is Colt trying to head off the inevitable "he can win it next year" arguments.
