So I'm thinking of picking up a PS3 (40gig) so I can play either NCAA football or Madden when they come out if not both. I haven't played video games in 5 years or so and I never really liked them but I do love a good sports game. The question is which one do you guys think will be better? College football or Madden?

    I like Madden more.

But I have never been a college football fan.

NCAA's online dynasty sounds like a winner.

I've always liked NCAA more, but it's definitely all about personal preference. I love the more unique stadiums, the recruiting, the dynasty, having many, many more teams to choose from, etc. But, I usually get Madden every year, too, and there's plenty to like about it as well. On the whole, though, I've noticed I play NCAA much, much more the last 5 or 6 years, if not longer.

You might want to try All-Pro Football or that new Backbreaker football game.

NCAA is definitely the better game...Dynasty Mode kicks ass

but if for some reason you're not a college football fan in general, like WWR, then maybe you just wouldn't be interested in the setting personally

NCAA is a must buy for me every year. But last year (next gen) Madden definitely blew it out of the water. Madden got a patch that really fixed a lot of gameplay issues. The menus didn't have crippling lag time. And the game looked, ran, felt, smelt, moved, etc... much better than NCAA. This year NCAA is looking real good, checkout pastapadre.com for info. The beta for NCAA is already out. Like I said, online dynasty could be lots of fun if you have a competitive league going.

What all does it take to play online (dynasty mode) ? I have been out of the loop on video games.

Madden is going down drain.........But people still buy it because they want to play a NFL game......Thats the only one......

NCAA is good.........I like it......But it needs something else

Hopefully madden will do better this year

Because i like NFL better.......but NCAA game play is better

NCAA 2009, no doubt. It's one of the most complete video games ever made.

Bench Colt and put John Chiles in at QB. You'll run circles around the Sooners.

How can you say 09 is one of the most complete games made when it isn't even out? 08 had potential but in the end had some annoying hangups. You are one of those guys huh. That puts in the fast QB asap. Doesn't work in next gen anymore.

Hell ya, it's a lot more fun to run the option with Chiles than Colt. I thought NCAA '08 hit it out of the park with the enhanced recruiting options. That's the real value add there. I turned SMU into a freaking dynasty!

My main issue with '08 was the constant late hit flags when you tackle the QB even when penalties are turned off. Also, I'm not a fan of the new kicking mechanics which require the toggle.

Ya, 08 had a LOT of promise. But for me it had little knick knack stuff that really killed it for me. If they get it right for 09 I will be playing that thing for 8 months straight probably. My fingers or crossed.

Don't know that I agree. In fact, i thought that they often used different engines for each game, which meant that gameplay was significantly different (whether viewed in a negative or positive way.)

I seriously doubt EA would go out of their way to use two completely different game engines for very similar 2 games in the same genre.

NCAA is pretty much a tune up for the Madden team to make final tweaks to the final mediocre product until it goes gold in August.

I've been suckered into buying both for the past 6-7 years....

I think they both have a different feel to them. And I didn't mean to imply that they were going out of their way to create different game engines, but I think I've read that at times that NCAA uses a slightly older version of a Madden engine. As you say, NCAA may be more of a tune-up for Madden in some ways, but I still think it stands on its own nicely. If I had to pick one of the two, I'd easily go with NCAA. I think I've enjoyed the gameplay more over the years, and the playbooks typically seem more creative. I enjoy running a variety of different offenses, from extreme wide open offenses, to variations of the triple option or zone read.

Oh, and I just checked the EA site, and I'm being told that you actually don't have to buy either game if you don't like them. You can check for yourself if you'd like....
