The way I see it Azubuike and Haryasz are two that will be cut.
    My questions are:
    1. Do the Rockets actually have any players on our NBDL affiliate?
    2. Would it be worthwhile to send either or both of these guys down against the probable December retiring of Sura?
    3. How do the contracts we would have to give them count against our cap?

    Just wondering.

i believe anyone you send to the nbdl counts against your cap and also takes up a roster spot.

That is correct. If we send someone down to the NBDL, we still have to pay them whatever their contract calls for and they take up one of the 15 roster spots, so it would not help with the Sura situation.

I don't think Azubuke and Haryaz are in such great demand that they couldn't be cut, go down the NBDL unaffiliated, and then be re-signed later on if necessary (once Sura's spot is open)

I see now why we are letting our european prospects stay overseas now. I was kind of hoping that the NBDL would end up being a "farm system" where you could see Rocket prospects play.
That being said can you send your "inactive" guys down and bring them back up and activate them as you please?

I believe the only way you can send guys down to the NBDL is if they are in their first two or three years in the association.

Correct. It is possible they could be picked up, but remember most other teams are making their last cuts too. I think the likelihood either is signed by another NBA team among the pool of last cut players around the league before the season is slim.

Especially for guys with the name recognition of Matt Haryasz and Kelena Azubike. Casey Jacobsen might draw some interest, but who cares when we have Novak.

    Only the first 2 years.......

I could see V-span, Lucas, Azubuke, maybe Novak...anyone getting sent down....

However, as a season ticket holder to the Toros the Rockets minor league affiliate, JVG does not like to send anyone down.

The only Rocket we got last year was Gerald Fitch, and the Rockets cut him after about a week at the Toros.....good thing too, his shot had a sideways spin.

Yeah, I have a feeling we won't be "officially" sending anyone down. I think JVG feels it is better to keep promising younger contracted players training with the team over experience in the NDBL. Plus, the eligible Head, Novak, VSpan, Lucas look like they are going to get PT.

Now DD, can MH and KA go sign themselves with the Toros so the Rockets can keep a close eye on them, or is there an NDBL draft type system and players not under NBA contracts have no choice where they go.
