Hahahahahahaha I cracked up after this one. MJ drops, and bye bye Wizards national time slot : NEW YORK -- NBC dropped two Washington Wizards games from its schedule after Michael Jordan was put on the injured list. Washington's game against visiting Orlando on Sunday and its game against Boston on March 10 won't be aired nationally by the network, which is in the last year of its NBA contract. Instead, NBC will show Indiana at Sacramento this Sunday, and Toronto at Orlando on March 10. Those were the games originally slated to air on NBC when the season schedule was announced, but the network added Wizards games when Jordan came out of retirement. The 39-year-old Jordan had torn cartilage repaired in his right knee Wednesday, a procedure that typically requires 2-to-6 weeks of rehabilitation. "Given the injury to Jordan, the Sacramento-Indiana and Toronto-Orlando games are better matchups for us," NBC Sports vice president Kevin Sullivan said Thursday. NBC still is scheduled to televise the Wizards' game against Toronto on March 24, and against Dallas on March 31. Also, Sullivan said Thursday that Tom Tolbert will appear on its NBA studio show "until further notice." Tolbert, who has appeared occasionally as an analyst on game broadcasts, fills in for Jayson Williams, who was charged Monday with second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of a man at his estate. On Tuesday, the network issued a statement saying, "NBC Sports and Jayson Williams have reached mutual agreement that it's best for Jayson to focus on his personal issues and to not be on the air until those issues are resolved."
That is funny.....and they are even admitting it!!! (as if it isn't obvious to the general public anyway)
No one requires you to watch Wizards games. I happened to enjoy watching Michael play again. That's the beauty of TV: the ability to change channels.
I wonder if they will mention Jayson Williams on the pregame show. I mean there's a new guy filling in for him. I expect they would have to say something.
No one requires me to watch bad NBA basketball. I happen to enjoy watching good basketball. That's the beauty of TV: the ability to change the channel away from bad basketball. No more wiz hurrah. Now take the Knicks away too.
Unfortunately, some of us do not have league pass. That means uor basketball viewing options are left up to the whims of the networks. For those of us who do not enjoy the Lakers or Jordan, it really kind of sucks.
I'm with Hydra and Crisco on this one. I dont have league pass so I am stuck watching that damn MJ and MJ wannabe (read: Kobe). Also why the hell are the Knicks still on national tv? I mean our games were dropped. Why not the Knicks?
The Wizards were six games above .500 when Michael's knee starting acting up. How is that bad basketball? Is it because the Wizards turnover the ball less than all but two other NBA teams? Its a shame Michael got hurt. If you didn't want to see Michael in the playoffs again, I don't know how you could call yourself a basketball fan. That would've been great to watch.
NBC is a joke. Granted I had my doubts about Jordan being able to get the Wizards to be in playoff contention, but it was just a matter of time before he got hurt due to his age. To honestly think that the Wizards were going to make a run to the NBA finals when all they have is 2 players in Jordan and Hamilton and their main guy is like 38 or 39 is something that I couldn't figure out why people felt that. They were waxing nostalgic and that was clouding their good judgment and common sense.
I dont know about Crisco, but I am no big basketball fan. Some of us here might be just fans of the Rockets.
So if you weren't a big basketball fan, why would you even care what Jordan does? Just don't watch. Believe me, Jordan's not taking any air time away from the Rockets.
Yeah, it would have been interesting to see Jordan in the playoffs.(Although people can be basketball fans w/o wanting to see an old Jordan play ) Yeah, it's interesting to see Jordan play every once in a while. But the sheer amount of games that they showed for them was ridiculous. Jordan is somewhat interesting, and? The rest of the team is crap. They were 6 games above 500, in the weak east. That's not much of an achievement, other than the fact that their roster outside of Jordan stinks. Either try a little variety by showing different teams, or if you want to show entertaining basketball, the Kings and Mavs.
A. No one requires us to watch basketball we don't want to. However, if the only basketball game on is the one on NBC, you don't have much of a choice. As has been mentioned, show Kings and Mavs games. B. I don't wanna see Jordan in the playoffs. Is it because I'm not a basketball fan? No. I just don't like Jordan and I hope they don't make the playoffs. Hell, he is due some kind of injury. He has been remarkably injury free his whole career since his second season. C. I'm not sure why people think a switch to a different network will mean big market teams aren't on a lot. They all like the money. Plus, the others don't have the awesome theme song.
Why don't you like Jordan? Because he's too good? I usually don't like players because of their personality, because they act like jerks, because they're a dirty player, because they act spoiled, etc... Not just because they're good. If you say you NEVER liked watching Jordan, then I'm sorry, you are not a basketball fan. If you say you don't like watching Jordan now, then that's fine, but I find it hard to believe that a true basketball fan wouldn't want to see the best player of all time try to put something together in the playoffs at 39 years old. That would at least be something more interesting that just watching the Lakers sweep everybody to win the title.
