Did anyone catch the interview of JVG? I caught a little bit and it was interesting. If someone has the video of the game than please post it. I will try to recap of what i heard.

First JVG said he has not penciled in the starting PF. He said the trade for Battier gives him the ability to play him at 2,3,4 equally. He also said that Novak should get minutes at 3 and said he needs to balk up to play 4. He also said Lucas looks to be as good as any PG left on the FA market.

He also said that the team perimeter D was awful and created alot of opportunities for the other team plus it got the big guys in trouble.

Thats all i know. The interview took place during Houston Rockets and LA clippers game (I think). If they show a replay of that game than i will sure look into it.

I heard the interview as well. One of the main things he emphasized was how much better the Rockets need to do at guarding the 3-point line. He also stated how Novak needed to bulk up a lot more to play the 4 spot and that he expects a rough transition period to the NBA.

i would hope to hell he hasn't decided on a 4.

i also hope the 4 he decides on isn't even on our roster yet!

he said novak will have a tough transition period? well looks like we'll be seeing a lot more of bowen this season.

i don't understand. transition or not. the guy can shoot. yao and tmac get open shots for everyone. he can hit them. whats the problem?

I love Bowen's hustle and spirit, but how is that guy in the NBA?

It was probably Battier. The trade became official only on the 12th.

Regarding John Lucas, he said that he's a good shooter, has a great competitive spirit, and is very good on pick and rolls (better than some starting PGs). He also said that he's not a great passer yet, and he needs to work on his drives going left. Said he'd he'd be suprised if he wasn't a full time NBA player this season.

Just from watching summer league, Novak is clearly an upgrade over Bowen. If the Rox must keep Bowen due to his guaranteed contract, then they need to get him off the official roster and put him in the Turbo suit and let him do some halftime shows and work off his contract. I just can't stand the thought of him taking up another roster spot then seeing his number called because we have 3 guys injured.

One of the main reasons Van Gundy said he wanted Novak to bulk up enough to play defens at the 4 is it would be tougher for an opposing team's 4 to guard Novak on the perimeter than it would be for a 3.

Van Gundy said how players like Lucas and Carroll would probably find an NBA team, but I was wondering if that meant our team our someone else's.

Also, Van Gundy was really friendly and optimistic throughout the whole interview, which seemed kind of strange coming from him.

He was, wasn't he? Actually Van Gundy always does a good job commenting. I enjoy his comments alot, without seeing his face.

van gundy was actually positive on novak and none of his comments made me feel like novak wouldn't have a shot to be a contributor. that's what training camp and pre-season is for. so the answer is there is no problem, you're overreacting. it's a van gundy quote in the middle of july. it's premature to say "looks like we'll be seeing a lot more of bowen this season."

another interesting comment was that he said watching pat carrol, he needs to find a way to add another 6 inches to his 3-point range. said he struggled when he was pushed out to legit nba range.

I am encouraged to hear about JLIII and Novak's progress. It hurt so bad to see wide open jumpers missed too frequently last year. Novak is dead eye but I am surprised to hear about Carrol needing to extend his shot range. Thanks for the JVG interview. :)

Geez. Van Gundy is a scouting machine. He's an amazing commentator, and gives a ton of insight.

i think based on JVG's comment, we can expect limited PT for novak. he will be our 3s specialist at the 2 or 3. lucas and carrol may not be with us as they could go to other teams (suns made an offer to lucas). carrol may not have a chance with us.

I am hoping that battier wouldn't be our starting 4 as he can't be a full time PF in the western conference. Yao still need help on his weakside for rebounds and taken some pundings.

We need a backup center for Yao like what swift was last season, deke can play but very limited role and time. beside he's too one demonsional.

    starting PF still an issue.
