I don't start threads often, but I thought I should share this with you out-of-towners that are deprived of Rockets games.

Most of you already know of a program called pplive, which shows cctv-5 at a good quality and good stream.

There is another program called ppstream, this program has both cctv-5 and nbatv streaming live, and others such as

Star Sports (if the Rockets game is not scheduled to be on CCTV-5, then it will most likely be on Star Sports.)

If you are interested in this program...download it here:

    http://www.ppstream.com/bin/ppstreamsetup.exe

The program is chineese, but just clicking the button that is at the bottom will get you through the install without a problem.

    1. Install it and run it, you will then see a list of channels on the left.
    2. Double click on the channel you want to watch, then it will light up blue.
    3. Wait, be patient...as you will see a changing at the top of the center screen the %buffered and download rate.
    4. Once at 100% the channel will load.

Hope this helps...If it doesn't work, then I can't really help you because I don't understand chineese or the settings of this program.

Are PPLive and PPStream related to each other at all? Do they use the same p2p network?

    Thanks, you are the man.

For those who wants the TV schedule of the channel selected, go to the most upper right section, there is an icon followed by five Chinese characters, click on it the TV shedule will be displayed. Below the icon there is two menus, the left one is the channel's name, such as CCTV-5, the right one is the date in the order from Monday, Tuesday ... to Sunday. Find "NBA" in the CCTV-5 schedule then usually it's either an NBA game or report on the NBA. The Chinese equivalent of the Rockets is 火箭队. I hope your screen displays the Chinese fonts correctly.

you can try both, I think pplive is better. I downloded both just in case one doesn't work.

So does CCTV-5 show the rockets games live? Or are they delayed several hours?

No it seemed to be just fine, but I didn't watch for longer than 10 seconds or so before I tried to connect to CCTV-5 to see how that would work.

EDIT: I take this back, it will play smoothly for about 10-15 seconds, and then it will freeze before it starts back up again 10-15 seconds later.

It seems to take a LONG time to buffer before it starts 3-5 minutes sometimes.

Cool. Star Sports is apparently listed as ESPNsomething on the menu. There are two versions listed and one of them is IN ENGLISH. I'm watching the Heat/Pacers game right now. The quality isn't close to as good as the CCTV5 800K feed on pplive, but it's seems to be stable, and definitely watchable.

    :) Thank you,

I just installed PPstream, am watching Heat vs Pacers on StarSports asia with it. Good quality, very smooth. I also clicked on NBA TV, it was nice too.

I used StreamTVNow for the first time last night to watch the Rockets game. There was a thread about it in the Hangout recently. I was happy. When I watched it at the default size, it was really clear (but really small:(). The announcers were Bill and Clyde, so that was nice. I reccommend it.
