Kong Extinct.  NBAtalk EXCLUSIVE. Wally Walker is beginning to hit the talk radio and local news circuit tonight.  And it doesn't mean what many fans around the league were hoping.  The Sonics have admitted defeat and are, at last, ready to bury Kong and dreams of Patrick Ewing. Walker will begin a comprehensive campaign tonight to do "damage control" and explain to fans and the media what went wrong. The Sonics and Knicks tried again today, unsuccessfully, to get a Ewing for Baker deal done but in the end the Sonics walked away.  They'll lose more than Ewing.  NBAtalk has learned that Mo Taylor will likely sign with the Houston Rockets tomorrow for one year the $2.25 million exception. Even more importantly they have seemed to have lost the trust of not only Vin Baker, who wanted to be moved to the Knicks but Gary Payton as well. Paul Westphal made a bold move to shake up his roster but in the end, he, not Baker, may be the one ultimately voted off the island. The Knicks, Lakers and Pistons will still try to get their respective deals done.  It is unlikely that the Knicks can move Ewing now.  The Pistons will probably pull the trigger with Dallas for Laettner. Who knows where Glen Rice will eventually end now.  But let's take a minute to mourn Kong, which would have been the biggest trade in NBA history.  Well Kong, it was fun while it lasted.

The Cat, always the optimist. Looks like it will happen, but again, the ink is not on the paper as of yet. When the ink is dry and only then will we know, and when the press conference is announced. Somehow I see Falk as still being up to something, but it sure looks better if you want Mo here.

Those were my thoughts originally when we wanted Mo. And maybe it's still true- but I doubt it. Looking at the reaction Falk had to Detroit- threatening never to send one of his clients there- I think this was his BIG deal that he had been working on all summer. I think now Houston is about Mo and Falk's only option.

Cat, i really think had this trade gone through Mo would be signing in Seattle. I really think we were his second choice. Whether it was Falk or Mo, one of them thought that Seattle was more attractive. Whatever the reason, loks like Houston has pulled off another fast one, at least it appears that way for now.

I am going to hold hope until I hear from Mo himself that he is signing w/the Rox and does it !

    Question:
Ok lets say he does sign, what would be the possibilities of us resigning him next yr. if things do turn out right ? I know we will have the cap to do it w/but will the rox pull the trigger on paying Mo T that much money ? will he be worth it ? also, if I am not mistaken not next season but the 2001-2002 season is when Anderson is expecting his big payoff right ? are the rox gonna have the money to give him the money he deserves and Mo too ? or does Anderson's salary not count towards the cap ? well, I guess all we can do is stayed tuned and hope that Mo does sign and that he proves himself to be a valuable asset to this team , also, I hope that he develops some GREAT chemistry w/the rest of the guys in our team and he just tells Falk am staying here ! I like it and I want to give the rox first opportunity to sign me !

When I die I want to go right after watching a rockets game !

3pointer: Even bird players salaries count towards the cap... you can just go *over* when signing them, or even if you're already capped out.

Anderson will need to play for Houston for another year in order to get Bird rights. This means he could either sign for the mid-level exception, or continue with his current contract.

After that final year, it wouldn't matter how capped out the Rockets were.
