Although we have all been predicting the Rockets and T-wolves in the first round, I am confident that the Lakers will overtake the T-wolves to get the second seed and when the smoke clears, it will be the ROCKETS vs FAKERS in the first round. The way the Fakers are playing with everyone healthy, I dont know if Im as excited about this match-up as I once was. Kobe has been going off, and Karla along with GP and of course Shaq (fat @ss) zilla will be tough. But no matter what. The NBA as well as all of us Rockets fans are salivating at this thought. YAO VS SHAQ for at least 4 games.
The top 2 seeds go to the division winners... so the Lakers have to catch the Kings - NOT the Timberwolves - to get one of the top 2 seeds.
:::sigh::: I know the Rockets haven't been in the playoffs before, but one would figure that the fans that come here would have basic knowledge of the playoff structure...
Oh OK thanks Clutch I was wondering why more people werent talking about this, how far back are the Lakers from Kings???
Rockets will knock off T-pups in the first round. So Rockets vs Lakers in 2nd round. Wouldn't that be more exciting than meeting them in the 1st round?
A-Train your right, its been such a long freakin time that I haven't been paying much attention to those kinds of details
well... if the Lakers catch the Kings, then they will play the EIGHTH seed, since the Kings are in first place overall - so again, no dream matchup - lets just hope for a Rox first round upset (which should seal the deal)
willis, you assume that minnesota doesn't end up with the top seed. Many options there are still! I'm betting minnie sodas vs Yoackets !
The Lakers are two games behind the Kings in the loss column. But the Kings is coming to Texas for a tough trip when they will play the Spurs, the Rox, and the Mavs. The Lakers hope that they will go back to Sac town with two losses and they will face each other there. So there is a realistic chance for the Lakers to be number 1. If the Lakers get to the top of western conference, then the Rox will more than likely not play against the Lakers. However, it is not an easy job for the Lakers to overtake the Kings. So the probability that the Lakers will finish as the number 3 seed with a better record than the number 2 seed is higher. Then, assuming the Rox get the number 7 seed and beat the Wolves in the first round, the Lakers will play the Rox in the second round.
If the Lakers pass the Kings and have a better record than the Midwest winner, yes. But they're #2 if they pass the Kings and one of Minnesota/San Antonio/Memphis have a better record. Point is: They can't just pass the Midwest team for "second-best record". They have to pass the Kings to get one of the top 2 seeds.
It's kinda weird that the Rox are the only ones pretty much locked into their position in the West. Everybody else is scrambling for playoff positioning.
After studying the remaining schedule for each potential western playoff teams, it seems most likely Rockets will play Spurs, with Wolves and Grizs fighting for 4th seed.
Is there any way we can have a sticky explaining playoff seeding, and the fact that anyone who starts another post without an understaning of it will be forced into exile?
If we defeat the Lakers in the playoffs A+++ for the season!!! I wont even care about the Championship then.
Are you confusing us with the Yellow Jackets?? Both of these two teams are defense oriented and I root for both of them!!! Go Jackets!! Go Rockets!!
We could very well play the Lakers in the first round. To do that the T-Wolves(51-24) would have to over take the Kings(52-21) for the 1 seed and the Lakers(50-23 would have to overtake the Kings for the 2 seed.
The Wolves would have to overtake the Lakers and the Kings. LA is a game behind Minnesota in the loss column. If Minnesota and LA match Ws and Ls the rest of the way, LA winds up with the better record.
