i dont even care. Viewership goes down and they lose a couple million on their already crazy contracts. NBA needs to market the stars like they did in the past. They need to do more because the monoculture is gone Steph, KD and Lebron are the last Super-Super stars.

    nobody cares about Wemby.

Maybe Cooper Flag is up next.

The Rockets have a truck load of franchise players. They should market Houston.

I must say that MJ didn't win a title until his 7th year, but he still carried the torch for the NBA before his breakthrough. From the start, his rookie season was a year long hurricane of publicity. The hype was completely nuts but he delivered the goods every night.

also everyone had WGN for some reason. Everyone was watching the bulls. Ant has the charisma to be a huge star but without the monoculture you can't build mega stars like they did in the past. Nobody is watching the same things at the same time anymore.

People cared about Wemby but only his rookie season. Same thing with Evan Mobley and Zion. I guess the ratings are down because Caitlyn Clark is the rookie everyone is watching now because the 2024 class sucks ass.

Ant and Ja don’t appeal too all kids of racial backgrounds. They are very immature and appeal to a group of people who don’t have common sense. And who think getting an education makes you a sellout.

this is why Adam silver is pushing heavily for European expansion. The American star players are not marketable Im talking about the recent draftees. Jayson Tatum is probably a great person but his personality is kind of dull.

-game has been solved/3-point shooting contest
-players aren't going to become more skilled or athletic
-current, younger stars are just imitations of current, aging stars.
-the best players of the 2010s lebron, curry, durant, dwade, harden, cp3...kawaii? are/were more unique, marketable, & just better players
    -too many games, less randomness
-too much airtime & attention for refs/shitty commentators (the decent ones are coaching now jvg/reddick)

How about marketing teams and the storylines within them. The NFL talks about the Green Bay Packers just as much as they talk about the LA Rams. People care what's happening on the Cleveland Browns with the Deshaun fiasco. In the NFL it's about team first, players secondary. That's why players can come and go but the popularity remains.

For a very long time, the NBA has been about individual players. It rode this wave from mediocrity to the mountaintop starting in the 80s. If uber marketable players don't rise up to adequately fill the vacuum after LeBron, KD, Steph, etc, nothing can stop a decline in ratings.

The NFL has always been about the jersey. Fans "live and die" with teams more than players.

No, people are done with the long ass games due to replays, the refs ineptitude, the horrible commentary - negativity on national TV - and watching teams reign threes and get to the foul line.

How do they account for the likely millions across the world that just use sites like Stream east? I had to edit this and put a space between Stream and East. Even Clutchfans edits it out lol

I don't think Durant and Curry are big draws. LeBron is a big draw.

But yeah, they not only need a new generational star to emerge, they need a rivalry. And I don't see it. Not yet. But eventually, somebody rises out of the ashes. It's not Wembanyama. He just doesn't have the "it".

This. Everything is just worse now and no bratty twizzler looking French guy is going to fix that. He's more of a symptom of the problem than a solution to it.

Fair, but that’s their own fault since they refuse to offer a good product. League pass is **** so people stream.

I do think Prime & NBC will at least partially make up for that TNT old men yell at clouds nonsense and revive some positive spirit.

It’s no wonder they have no rivalries anymore, since NBC in particular used to create positive, competitive and compelling stories. Nobody’s doing that now. It’s all left to social media and everyone’s tired of that, since there’s no control and ppl create their own stories.

ESPN being the main source for sports news doesn’t help as your IQ literally drops points increasing with time you spend listening to the garbage spewed and yelled on there.

But coverage has to change drastically before people get interested again. And coverage of a rookie just because of LA and daddy being famous is not the quality people look for. Nor is it hiring donkey boy.

People have tuned out and rightfully so.
