I think this is a ranking for click through rate. It has no direct correlation to how popular a player is. It has more to do with the amount of curiousity vested in a player though.
are we (some of us) going to blame China for this again or are we going to accept the fact that Yao and the Rox are a popular team, now?
I know that. Give me a little credit! Sometimes, though, click-through rates and web-traffic metrics look at a multitude of websites that are devoted to either NBA players or NBA teams. The posting was vague on just how wide the scope was. On my initial read, I thought they were counting the web traffic for all sites, or maybe the ones you would get if you googled. But you're right--it's NBA.com, so they probably only recognize the pages on NBA.com.
Since it is from NBA.com I assume it means www.Rockets.com NOT Clutchfans.net EDIT: Nevermind....already pointed out.
He's talking about how people tend to exaggerate the effects of Chinese internet users. It's as if some people think everyone in China has the internet, and they have nothing to do all day except checking out Yao's NBA stats.
I think it is possible that the popularity of Clutchfans is giving rockets.com more traffic than it would otherwise receive. CF promotes a robust online fan community. When you have fans taking an active online interest, it will generate more traffic for all related sites. I know in my own practice, rockets.com is getting traffic from me so I can bolster arguments made on this BBS. If the BBS didn't exist, I'd probably have less reason to visit rockets.com (since I get my news from the Chron and ESPN).
popular means well liked - I think that famous might be a bette work (or in Iverson's case - INfamous)
The Rockets obviously get infinite free publicity from this site. Clutch deserves some kind of commision...
Seriously, though, Clutch, have they contacted you or vice-versa into selling them this BB? Never mind... they might want to shut it down to monopolize the 'net access to ROX main site. You should get at least SOMETHING from them, though... it would just be fair that we are a very large portion of those who go get the "official" stories at the rockets . com site.
