Will Mo Get Super Sonic? NBAtalk talked to several league sources this morning that confirmed that Mo Taylor is leaning toward signing a one-year deal for the $2.25 million dollar exception with the Seattle Supersonics. Taylor, according to another source, plans to make a final decision Monday or Tuesday. Taylor's visit with the Supersonics went extremely well and the Sonics are excited about adding him to their roster the source told NBAtalk. Taylor's strategy is to sign a one year deal and become a free-agent again next year when he has a better shot at big money. Not only will there be a much weaker free-agent class to compete with for the big dollars, but several teams will be well under the cap and could afford to sign Mo. However the deal is not done. Taylor's agent David Falk is still trying to land his client more than the league exception by exploring ways to get a sign-and-trade done to get his client a longer deal and a bigger paycheck. Taylor would be an interesting fit for the Sonics. They already have Vin Baker, Horace Grant, Jelani McCoy and Olumide Oyedeji at power forward. With Taylor's weak rebounding skills and his strong offensive skills, several scouts seem convinced that Taylor could play the three. More on this as we get it. ---- Damn! I don´t believe we´re gonna lose this guy to the Sonics! ------------------ "Never underestimate the heart of a champion"
Could this be an attempt at getting Mo more from the Rockets using the Rockets $4.5M trade exception somehow? ------------------ Bad spellers of the world: UNTIE!
Yes, and the genius Sonics would prefer NOT to play Rashard Lewis at the 3? Why sign with the Sonics, who won't be under the cap next year? NBAtalk has been wrong plenty of times, we'll just have to wait and see... If not, it'll be great to hear from the locker room of Gary Payton, Vin Baker, Vernon Maxwell, Mo Taylor, Horace Grant, along with a nice mix of foreigners in Laz Borrell, Vladimir Stepania, and Olumide Oyedeji. A little different from the warm and fuzzy atmosphere in Houston. Rashard won't be able to wait to get on a plain back to Houston. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. I don´t like this. I don´t like this AT ALL. Falk is playing games with us and i´m not in the mood for it, not with the whole arena debate raging. If that bum doesn´t want to come here, i say forget about him. And if he´s playing mind games with us, (which definetly seem to be the case) I have enough reservations against Mo´s charater to stand this cheap blackmailing ploy to *possibly* get the promise of a long term deal with the Rockets. ------------------ "Never underestimate the heart of a champion"
Maybe their promise to play him at the #3 was a good selling point. Noone expects a SF to have exceptional rebounding numbers... (they expect them to be larger than the 2 that he'll get now, but that's besides the point). Mo can hide now. In Houston, there was merely too much responsibility. Way to go putz. I guess noone earns their money anymore, huh? ------------------ I've posted so much that what I say must be true.

If he goes to Seattle, how much PT does he get there with Lewis, Baker, McCoy? Without PT, how is he going to put up the numbers he needs for a big contract? If he wants a payoff from the Rockets, one of the few teams with cap space next year, then I would think it'd be in his best interest to play nice this year and take our exception w/o trying to force us to use our trade exception on him. I'm not sure that's the case anyway. A sign and trade can only take place with the free agent's current team signing him and then trading him. I'm just suspicious of why he would want to go to Seattle. Either NBATalk is wrong, Mo/his agent are playing games, or he's stupid. ------------------ Bad spellers of the world: UNTIE!
IF he´s not playing games with us, and that´s a mighty BIG if, his rationale has to be that the Sonics we´ll have a guaranteed playoff appearance, which may help raise his value. Obviously if Mo goes to Seattle, they´ll move Rashard to the SG spot, which he can play at, and leave Mo as the starting SF. I suppose Baker being in shape must have something to do with that decision. That way, Ojedi (or something like that) will be their center, and Mo their SF. An intersting line-up, i would say. What puzzles me is that Seattle hasn´t a PRAYER of signing this guy next season since they WON´T have the cap to fulfill his HIGH expectations. Just ONE run to raise his value and then, off to the market again! This guy is sickens me! IF it´s not just a game to get a better offer from us. In EITHER case, unless nbatalk is just flat out WRONG, i don´t want to see this bum on our team anymore. He has demonstrated that the worst fears of him being a bad apple are right on the mark. ------------------ "Never underestimate the heart of a champion" [This message has been edited by Thanos (edited August 11, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Thanos (edited August 11, 2000).]
I say the new Clutch Headline should be: "Eckels Drives Mo to Seattle" ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Didn't Darth Falk say the Rockets were the frontrunners? Ironic. Thanos-Don't get to far ahead of yourself. There's been no quotes from Mo, or someone in the know on the situation. (Now, if only we could get someone who would know *cough ahem Doc Rocket or oeilpere cough ahem*) ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. When eye fly those plains over the planes of Texas, I usually reed because those planes our just two plane too look at. On the Taylor issue, if we get him great, if not, no big loss. He would've been a great bargain, but it's possible he would've only been here for 1 year anyway. And maybe the pursuit of Taylor will drive KT to play some determined ball next year. And what we lose from Taylor, we'll gain from KT who can rebound and at least tries to play d. ------------------

I don't think they're gonna move Rashard Lewis to the 2-guard. Shammond Williams has been TEARING UP the summer leagues and has almost assured himself the starting shooting guard spot next to Gary Payton. Plus, Brent Barry had a very nice season for them last year. I just don't get what EITHER side is thinking. Doesn't Seattle realize that renting Taylor for one year (when they don't have a realistic shot at getting out of the first round of the playoffs) is a dangerous proposition? He'll just take away playing time from the Sonics' young core. Rashard Lewis, who plays either forward position, will likely feel betrayed. And what about Ruben Patterson (had a GREAT year for them last season) and Desmond Mason (rated the best rookie in the summer leagues)? They were supposed to lock down the 3 position this season for Seattle. I think signing Mo Taylor to the $2.25 mil exception would be a curse on that franchi . . . uh, well, now that I think about it, GO RIGHT AHEAD, SEATTLE! ------------------
This sounds like Falk trying to squeeze a few more bucks out of the Rockets. "OOOO, were about to sign with some one else, if you want my guy come up with some more money" If this is not the case then the only thing I can think of is that this guy has no confidence in his game. To go to Seattle where there is no pressure because of the log jam a PF. Because if he came to Rockets and was given the PF job he would be expected to produce. Then if he didn't then his well laid plan to cash in next year would be shot. ------------------
This is most likely an attempt to get the Rockets to use their trade exemption so the Mo can get a bigger contract and maybe an extra year or 2. I have heard that the Clippers did not want any more contracts on their roster which was the main reason they did not sign-and-trade Derek Anderson. The only way that a sign-and-trade would go down would be through the Rockets because the trade exemption would not add to their payroll. The Clippers can always change their mind but that is the most logical explaination. Any person that the Sonics threw in a trade would increase the Clipper's payroll greatly. I would not mind getting Big Mo for a 2 or 3 year deal at about 4 or 5 mill but anymore would dip into our cap space for next year. ------------------ Houston Rockets Forever!! In Rudy We Trust
LilFrancis, cheer up man. Mo will more than likely end up here, whether that be good or bad. We will know soon though. I am going to try and slip out of work and get over to the press conference. The Rockets are not going anywhere. I am confident. by November 8th, this will all be an afterthought and our team will still be in Houston. ------------------ And tonight...From the Bank United Center...Your Houston Rockets and Miami Heat in Game 1 of the 2004 NBA Finals!!!!!
I don't quite understand why he would ever want to go to Seattle. They won't be under the cap next year, which will be the case with the Rockets. In addition, the Sonics have plenty of power forwards, including Dream Teamer and former All-Star Vin Baker. No matter that he hasn't lived up to his potential, I would go with Vin Baker any day. He can score and he's a solid rebounder. They also have Horace Grant down there, who makes for a respectable backup. How would Mo be able to show his skills to the rest of the league in sucha situation? He won't be able to do anything at the SF position, as they have Rashard Lewis and Patterson at that slot. No way Rashard will be playing SG, by the way. Even if the Sonics do like his talent despite what will probably be a season with no significant statistical production, they won't be able to give him the max. I don't know what type of game David Falk is playing. All I do know is that I never like what that guy is up to. I'm guessing that he's trying to get some sort of sign and trade deal done, which a Seattle newspaper has hinted. If this does not pan out, I still think that Mo will come down to Houston for the exception. He would be the starter, no doubt, and the competition coming from Kenny Thomas for the spot will not be all to dangerous for him. No wonder David Falk called Grunwald "sensible." They're obviously very much alike... ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) Houston Rockets Space Center- Not just another ClutchCity.NET clone.
