Miller NBCSports.com contributor updated 2 hours, 5 minutes ago Clippers want Rubio over Griffin? Word is that the Clippers will be taking power forward Blake Griffin with the No. 1 pick in next month's draft. But there is also a supposed contingent in the L.A. front office that would like to have Spain point guard Ricky Rubio instead, particularly since the team is already shelling out $33.3 million till 2011 for Zach Randolph to be the power forward. And Golden State might be convinced to take current point guard Baron Davis back in a trade. The voices for Rubio will likely be drowned out by the Griffin group in the end. So expect the Clippers to try and unload Randolph this summer. Would you want your prize new employee learning from that guy? (Detroit News) Thunder making offer for top pick Blake Griffin was born in Oklahoma City and his new hometown team, the Thunder, would like to keep him there. The team is apparently going to offer its third pick and one of its better younger players, such as Russell Westbrook or Jeff Green, for the right to pick Griffin first in next month's draft. Don't expect the Clippers to go for it. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram) Knicks' D'Antoni liking Curry's look The Knicks are going to take a guard with the eighth pick of the draft next month and coach Mike D'Antoni says the team has already studied four of them closely on tape. The likely leader of that pack is Stephen Curry, who is leaving Davidson one year early. D'Antoni is thinking Curry will make "a really good pro." The coach may get a front-row seat to see if that is true or not. (New York Post) Celtics want a vet When Kevin Garnett went down this year, the team suddenly got much younger, says Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. And that's something he wants changed in the off-season by adding an experienced backup for Paul Pierce. (Boston Herald)
im not sure how we can take advantage of any of this...OKc wants the second pick, NY wants curry, boston wants a vet...it has nothing to do with Houston
Frankly this thread should be moved to the NBA section because there is nothing about the Rockets and nothing that the Rockets can get involved in here.
That's why I posed the question can the Rockets take advantage! We have had discussion previously where the Clippers would be an ideal trade partner since they have so many bigs or the Celtics due to the aging big 3.
Ok, then you can discuss taking advantage of it in the existing threads already talking about taking advantage of it...this new "info" doesn't affect it in any kind of way. To get something we have to give, and we don't have to give what these teams want.
YES WE CAN! they want Yao Luis and Brooks for Camby Zach, Baron and Blake... That is the deal on the table and they will even take on Tmac to make the numbers match. Let's do it!
You know your franchise sucks when they are thinking about the 1st pick before he season has started.
I know that's why you posted it, I'm just pointing out that you should have known there was nothing there for the Rockets and not even bothered. Saying it should be in the NBA section is telling you that this thread is full of FAIL and that there's nothing the Rockets can do with any of these teams that benefits us. And that Clippers thread was also stupid, but at least that guy tried to come up with a starting point even though he could have easily checked that the salaries don't add up. The first three things are about teams in the lottery, 2 of them involve Blake Griffin. All the talk is just chatter, even the Clips aren't stupid enough to pass on him (unless he forces his way out like Francis or Kobe). The Knicks want Stephan Curry, what in the hell can the Rockets do with that? Nothing, move the hell on. The Celtics want a veteran SF, so what, do you want to trade them Battier? What do we get back? Mikki Moore? This thread sucks, there's no reason at all to think there was anything here the Rockets could get involved in. You just felt like starting a thread.
Clippers: We could probably get Randolph cheap, but I wouldn't want him even if they paid us to take him. So, I don't see much there. I would be interested in Baron Davis if he wasn't so injury prone. We have enough guys like that. Thunder: They want the young hometown kid. We've got nothing to offer on that one. Knicks: Again, just looking at rookies. Nothing for us to look at. Celtics: Experienced back-up wing? Von isn't experienced. McGrady's likely too expensive. Artest sign-and trade? Also, I'm sure they'd love Battier. But, I doubt they'd want to part with the talent it'd take to get either of those guys.
I can pretty much guarantee that Morey will not take the albatross that is Baron Davis. 3 years left on his contract, injury prone, shot 37% from the field, 30% from 3; that is all worse than Rafer. Baron Davis is no longer an elite-level point guard. The only way I could see us taking Davis is if the clipper threw in this years 2nd (1st in second round), Deandre Jordan and Eric Gordon.
The only deal we might see here is if we were willing to take on some big Clippers contracts just to get the #1 (Blake or Ricky) in exchange for Tmac's expiring and some of your young, still-inexpensive talent. For such a deal, I could rely on Sterling's cheapness, but could we rely on Morey taking on Baron Davis' long-term $$$ deal in the process? Nah.
I wouldn't go that high in draft pick....$ wise. I would personally go for a high 2nd round pick. Morey finds the gems....I BELIEVE.
This doesn't make sense. Why would you want Ricky since have have Brooks and Lowry. Why would you want Blake since we have Scola.
You can never have too much talent. Either you keep the talent and build deep roster, or you trade some of the redundant pieces for players who play positions you may be weak in. For instance, you take Blake, then you can include Scola or Landry in a deal for a wing scorer or backup center. But, you never pass up the opportunity to get extra talent cheaply, never.
Rockets will not trade into the top 5. If we do that means we will be giving up a key player...the likes of Scola, Tmac, Artest, or Brooks. Teams don't just mess up a good team for a uncertain prospect.
You don't get into the top five without giving up something extremely valuable, and that's not likely to happen when the Rockets are in win now mode.
