I guess there is some justice in the NBA! The Knicks had no business getting an exception for Larry Johnson and the NBA agreed. Great news for the Rocks, another potential competitor out of the way! http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basketball/heat/sfl-heatnb12oct12.story?coll=sfla-sports-heat <i>The Bucks may have earned a significant victory before their exhibition game against the Heat even began Thursday night at Teco Arena. Bucks coach George Karl, who has been courting Heat free agent forward Anthony Mason, was all smiles after learning the NBA had turned down the Knicks' request for an injured-player salary exception because of Larry Johnson's retirement on Wednesday. "That's taken the competition away," Karl said. "I like him. I've made that very clear. We as an organization are trying to figure it out. I'd love to see it happen, sooner than later." The Bucks haven't been successful with any sign-and-trade deals, mostly because there is little interest in enigmatic big man Scott Williams, who remained in Milwaukee with a sore back. Heat president/coach Pat Riley reiterated that he wanted Mason to return. But because of salary constraints and the imminent luxury tax penalties, he couldn't offer the 34-year-old the $4.53 mid-level salary exception he has demanded. "We didn't have any problems with Mace," Riley said. "The situation was a shame. He had a great year last year. We couldn't step up to the fight." "That [Knicks' rejection] may make it arguably easier," said Mason's agent Don Cronson. "It's still status-quo."</i>
