NBA officiating is weak..the refs are pansies. you can't argue? its a sport..there's alot of emotion in the game damn it! let the players taunt, argue calls etc. i have to say NBA has one of the worst officiating situations in professional sports also..the refs suck at their jobs too (see Yao)
Refs are always bad at pretty much all the major sports. Remember the World Cup a couple of months ago? They're human, they make mistakes.. it would be cool tho if the NBA only has 1 ref per game. Less calls, less free throws, more play. I don't like this new rule pampering the guards. Touch em and you get a call. What kinda bullpoop is that? Stern needs to quit 'protecting' his players too much. Let the game flow.
To the point where having your two arms out constitutes a technical? (ask nocioni). Kenny Smith: "Oh he raised his hand, that's a technical! Oh he dunked, technical!"
If we had less refs we would have more Kermit Washingtons in the Leauge. I dont mind having 3 refs, i just wish they wouldnt give all the calls to the perimeter guys.
These stupid referees are going to call lots of technicals this season. Anyone argues or put their hands up in disgust, questioning a call, is going to get called for a technical foul. That's what Rasheed Wallace did, raised his hands and asked why. He got T'd up for that. Carmello got a double technical too tonight. What the hell is this crap? Someone smack these fools with the whistles! These stupid referees are getting too much power. Tonight's Spurs vs. Mavericks game, a referee got smacked in the mouth and requires stitches. All the fans clapped when that happened, and in the replay, you seen Mark Cuban getting up out of his seat and clapped! Haha! Yea, everytime a referee gets smacked to a bloody pulp by the ball, just clap and cheer!!! During TNT halftime report, Reggie Miller, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley was making fun of that particular incident. They all said " Give that referee a standing 8 count!!! " Kenny and Reggie started counting 1! 2! 3! " Barkley was laughing, it was funny! They were all talking about these refs really need to stop calling bogus technical fouls. It's normal reaction for a player to raise his hands and ask HUH?! What?! You can't give them a technical for that. Everyone is obviously VERY disgusted with these referees abusing their power this season. I think all the players should spike the ball in the referee's mouth whenever they get the chance! And all the fans should start throwing trash and garbages on the court whenever there's a bogus foul or lame technical foul called. Basketball is too much of a beautiful game to be destroyed by these idiotic referees. Can I get an amen on that??!??! AMEN!!!!!!!!!!
as a protest, i wish the players would collectively just all throw their hands in the air in unison just to mock these stupid rules and get tossed out.
i am a ref. i work for the TASO and i do high school games and i don't take smack from players either. 1. the annoying part is when players complain about obvious calls or stuff they know they did. 2. the ref is never going to change his call cause of complaining..NEVER. so why argue. so i understand if players display emotions because they committed a foul BUT NOT because the refs call was r****ded. it's easy for someone to just complain bout reffing when you're watching..even i do it when i watch my fellow refs at other games. but when you go out there and start makin the calls it's a diff story. the entire rule book is running through your head on every play..they are not just thinking bout 1 or 2 calls. last thing you need is players whining in your face.
Forget about my anger over how they messed up our offensive flow in the first half of the Utah game. I was incredulous when Francisco Elson got T'ed up last night for yelling after dunking over Dampier. WTH -- you're not allowed to show emotion after dunking on someone anymore? Think of this -- with the new rules in place, T-Mac would have gotten T'ed up after that famous facial over Shawn Bradley in the '05 playoffs. I know they're trying to crack down, but it's just way too much. You have to let the game flow -- it really sucks when the referees are just messing it all up by blowing whistles everytime someone breathes a little too hard.
I understand that you have many things running across your mind and it can be a pretty intense situatoin. But these 'Professional' refs are getting paid BIG bucks to do this. Their performance should reflect their pay. But I guess EVERYONE is overpaid when it comes to professional sports. It's not helping that Stern is giving them too much power either. Sometimes they need to look at the situation.. just because someone raises their arms doesn't mean he's protesting you nor complaining. It could mean he's upset with himself. I do this all the time whenever I get a call. The game is turning into some prison-like sport, no freedom of emotion or anything. I understand Stern's position into 'trying' to make the sport flow smoother and faster with higher scores.. but he can't force it upon teams. If some teams specialize on D and doesn't like to run and gun it.. then let them. He's giving teams like the Suns an advantage. I say let the bigger players bully the smaller ones.. it's survival of the fittest.. if teams don't want their smaller guys to get bullied, then don't put them out there.
i agree. that technical was uncalled for. i called bout 2 technicals last year. everytime i blow a whistle for a foul..it changes the game completely. so imagine a tech. technical fouls are not silly fouls..they are just making it lose its value by handing it out like free condoms at planned parenthood. the problem with letting things go is then it backfires on u. "hey u didn't call it when blah blah...but why now" so then you call things in the first quarter and jack up the whole flow of the game. finding that balance of no-call..and all-call is the key. there's some jobs you will be hated on by half of the people..and loved by the other half. cops, referees..
Stern's turning the league into 1984. We want to watch humans play basketball, not robots. Due to its fast and physical nature, basketball is inherently an emotional game. Trying to remove the outlets for that is just asking for trouble.
They don't allow yelling at the refs in the NFL and that is a much more physical sport then the NBA... The players need to be toned down some. I suspect it will be like a pendulum. the refs have ultimate power nowso they are probalby over reacting in some instances to get their point across and in the case of some players its viewed as justice for all the crap they had to deal with over the years <cough> <rasheed wallace> <cough>. It will balance out over time, the players just need to adjust to it. Just like the traveling and palming calls you are seeing this year.. the players hate it but I for one am glad to see them calling that as they should.....its cheating and gaining an advantage.
BoogeyMan, I believe they started to cheer when he got off of the floor and everyone saw that he was alright not when he actually got hit.
coaches are screaming at NFL refs throughout the whole game. the difference is, they don't get a penalty flag for it. if NFL refs can take it, i'm sure NBA refs are man enough to also. at least the NBA refs have the technical at their disposal.
yea, but the refs are the ones in the trenches. any criticism of the refs is a criticism of Stern's r****dedness.
NFL refs are also better in making the correct calls in my own opinion. They're also more likely to pull back a call (ie. Throwing a flag, and declare no penalty after consulting with the others refs). Sometimes I think the refs can't even trust the guys on their team. I've seen so many calls where the ref furtherst from the play blows his whistle while the one right next to it does not. Why is the ref 50ft from the play making a decision?
NB:* the question that I ask is why were the San Antonio players, in last nights game, not called for contesting the Refs decissions? Coach Pop got away with all his complaining without a single call. If the Refs are going to be strict about this rule they should apply it to every team, with out exception! Also the refs did not call all the contact fouls of Bowen and Duncan.
