If the NBA is going to give Charlotte a new Franchise, how would the teams realign? I think this topic was discussed already, but I don't remember. I guess the league could move New Orleans to the midwest, and then place the new Charlotte in the central. That makes the most sense. Fifteen per conference. Adding another team would mean increased games. Play each team in their own conference 4 times 14X4 = 56 games Play each team twice in the other conference. 15x2= 20 games Total = 86 games. So it would be a new 86 game schedule.
The NBA has enough trouble getting attendence for the teams now. I don't see an expantion till the NBA gets more popular in the States. I was up in Charlotte a month ago in one of the ritzy neighborhoods. I couldn't believe how many houses had basketball nets in their driveways. It was close to 1 out of 4. Seeing this, its sad to see Charlotte lose their team to something like ... New Orleans. New Orleans will not last long. I give it 4 seasons. I live in Baton Rouge and nobody gives a crap for the NBA, much less any pro-sport. They are very college/high school oriented here. I believe Charlotte will get a team to move there in a couple years.
i think they need to move memphis to the east. im pretty sure they would have switched memphis to the east and new orleans to the west, except that would make the west even stronger and the east even weaker. thats juss my two cents.
I just got back from a vacation/cruise and I spent a few days in New Orleans before I got on the Cruise ship and its my prediction that the Hornets will be a huge flop in New Orleans after just a few years. In the five million tshirt shops I went into in New Orleans, I saw a grand total of ONE Hornets shirt in ONE shop. I know they are new in the city, but shouldn't the marketing team have some merchandise in the stores? This was literally the only Hornets merchandise I saw in my 3 days in New Orleans. The only other mention I saw of the hornets (I didn't see any billboards, but i'm sure there have to be SOME) was on the cover of some business magazine. It didn't really have anything to do with people related to the team, but just two local businessmen who pushed for the Hornets to come to town.
Expanding the NBA during a recession is a very risky move. By diluting the talent pool even more, owners will be hard pressed to justify their ticket increases when people aren't as inclined to goto the games as they already are.
Please, don't add any more teams to a watered-down league. We need to bring Bud over to contract one and make it an even 28.
I don't believe the assertions of expansion watering down the league. This belief is based on a mercantilistic assumption that there is a finite amount of basketball talent in the world to form your teams from. This just isn't so. The existence of the NBA is creating more talent as time goes on. As the sport gets more popular, more kids are committing more of their life to training in the sport. As more spots in the league open, the incentive for kids to pursue basketball through college increases. As more players play in the league, more get the benefits of training under professional tutelage. And, as each of these things increases basketball competition in the playgrounds, highschool, college and pros, players can become even better still by playing tougher competition, creating a firestorm effect in the production of talent. I think there is a watering down effect if your expansion outstrips the pace of natural competitive growth, but I don't see that as the case in the NBA, which hasn't had a new team in years and years. As for the re-alignment, it seems the obvious thing would be to move New Orleans to the Western Conference if a new team were formed in Charlotte.
Okay, let's try something new. Let's clip a team. Which team gets kicked off the NBA island? I think Memphis is most deserving of getting the axe. I don't know why though. But that reason is good enough for me. Is it good for you? If I had my way, I would abort the New Yawk Knicks, but that's not happening.
Makes sense to me. We probably should give them a few more years, but they have always been in the lottery. Just about every other team has made it to the playoffs at least some time.(even the Clipps.) But to be fair, we should give them a few years. If they self-destruct again, they will prove they are unworthy.
