http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...lug=ap-celtics-garnetttrade&prov=ap&type=lgns BOSTON (AP) -- Kevin Garnett is leaving Minnesota after the Boston Celtics agreed to acquire the All-Star forward in a multiplayer trade with the Timberwolves, a Celtics official told The Associated Press on Monday. ...... The Celtics had tried to get Garnett late last month, but his agent said he didn't want to go to Boston. Since then, Boston acquired seven-time All-Star guard Ray Allen from Seattle in a draft day deal. Already with Paul Pierce, the Celtics would become instant contenders in the mediocre Atlantic Division with Garnett, even without promising forward Jefferson. ================================================ Is it a new trend that you need 3 Stars to be an "instant contender?" We know Spurs have Duncan, Parker and Gino; Mavs have Dirk, Terry and Josh; Suns Nash, Marion, Stotmire (gone?); etc. Now how about ROX? We have M&M, can SF be the 3rd Star? And, more important, how can we compete with those 3-Star teams?
no hes in the right forum hes talking baout the rockets being in the 3star formula.. however SF3 needs to prove that he can regain his former form before considered a star or allstar again
MAYBE in the weak East......... ON Stevie..I don't want him to be the player he was and I don't think we'll have to worry about it.Francis will be a very good role player for us.
Steve Francis + Mike James = borderline all-star. More than good enough considering we already have 2 of the best(if not the best) players at their position.
Sorry, but we are deep as hell, while the Celts are paper thin. It may be enough in the lEast, but not the West.
I do hope RA make everybody else, especially SF, MJ and Bonzi, maybe Brooks,a borderline star. "It takes 5," as they say. Oh I forgot Battier. He is a borderline star already.
Can't believe Minny didn't get more for KG. I mean Jefferson looks like a nice player, but he's no KG. Minny better hope Green turns into Kobe real soon or they are going to get the short end of the stick on this trade. As far as Boston being thin, yes they are but you could suit up Marv Albert next to KG, Pierce, and Allen and they'd still have a shot at winning the east.
The Cs aren't so thin. Rondo is a nice Pg for them, and Perkins has the size to fill the center spot. They have Scalabrine and Gomez and Allen on the bench. They need a backup pg and center, they'll be fine. The three-star story gives the media something to trot out when teams match up. It just makes the matches a little more interesting. The league needs that. The league likes stars.
not if kg was going to opt out of his contract after this season and the wolves would be left with nothing
I thought KG would like to go to LAL. I guess that didn't work out. Anyway I'm glad that KG and Allen both "go east."
I think this is somewhat true, 3 superstars for a championship. The Heat and Pistons aren't exactly in that mold, but Walker + Payton + Williams could be the 3rd, and the Pistons were 5 borderline star players. We've got SF + James + Bonzi, who could be our Walker/Payton/Williams.
francis is not a star. the only borderline all-star on this team is bonzi wells. dont sleep on brooks either i predict he'll be starting by midseason.
Really? I coulda swore mike james said his 1st season with KG in minny would lead him to an mvp, or something to that effect.
Steve Francis and Mike James together equals 1 borderline all-star. Never said anything about them being there individually.
dream + drexler + barkley = no charm but i think celtics may want alston now, they dont have any real point guard left and they need someone knows how to play with multi-all-stars.
