What's not being said is that there are at least a couple other franchises that may have to go this route as well.
Then David Stern can trade Paul to New York, pray and hope Melo joins next offseason and brings back the NYK/MIA rivalry.
This is very very strange Who approves and disapproves trade proposals b/c the NBA would be hiring the gm telling them what to do most likely.
Fisher is too important to LA because of all his "intangibles." LA would get the deal done for just Vajacic.
I'm down with it. Anything that gets Shinn out of the league is good with me. Him and Sterling have been the 2 owners at the top of my list that need to get out for the good of basketball. Maybe, but I think NO is in a more precarious position than the others. If some other owner needs to get out, he can sell to another private party. Usually there are a few bidders when a team is up for sale. Where is George Postolos' group, which had tried to buy the Charlotte Bobcats not long ago? I think the league wants to insist on keeping the Hornets in New Orleans because of the history of running away from Charlotte and then Katrina. And all the prospective owners know that it makes no financial sense to do so. Other teams in financial straits will be more able to relocate. Eventually, the league will have to concede a move from New Orleans too. Being the middle man here may just be to control the PR around such a move. They've appointed someone to take on that role so the league can keep an arm's length relationship. Honestly, I don't expect any trouble with the team's independence, with the caveat that the team's roster will have to be managed to keep it primed for sale (which would be the case anyway), and that they can't become heavy spenders while the league is picking up the bill (though they may have deeper pockets than Shinn anyway).
There was an SI.com article that mentioned the possibility of a second Chicago team but KC would make sense. I wish they would go back to Seattle but apparently Key Arena is the hold up.
I think it's time for the NBA to expand beyond south of the border. Buy the Hornets and move it to Mexico City. Canada, USA and Mexico? Whoa, the NBA is soon to be taking over the world.
According to Jay-Z, NBA franchises don't make much profit, if any. He says, "There more like paintings for billionaires."
