Just tried the xbox version, the game feels pretty great, however the team rating seems to be a little off. Since I am a noob in basketball game, it seems to me the only easy scorer in the game was Yao, everybody else just can't score. Even McGrady misses easy twos.
You have to mess with the sliders to get it the way you want it. All basketball games are like that. It will take time to get used to it.

I am noob in basketball video games, but I did play live 03 and 04, I would say the control is a bit easier and commentary seems to be better. The graphics doesn't seems to be that much better, the free throw is hard as heck (I have not made one yet, somebody help? How exactly you line up the dashlines??). As for the rating of the team and players, Houston is rated way off (83), so is some other teams like TWolf (82) etc. In general all eastern teams are overrated, such as Raptors is rated 86 and Wizards 85. Yao is rated 80 and McGrady 90, but in game I feel much easier to score with Yao then McGrady (probably becoz my lack of skill)
Just cuase yao is rated lower doesn't mean he is not going to score. The rating is based on all the overall attributes the player has. I am sure if you look at the ratings Yao's inside game is rated really high, so when you go to yao in the post he is going to make more shots becuase he is that highly rated on the inside game but his handles and other stuff might not be as high as mcgrady. Every player is good at certain things and then yo huave players like TMac that are going to be more well rounded that puts them up in the higher rating level.
Teams overall rating does mean a solid 'yes they are good' or 'no they suck' or that one team is better than the other just because they are rated higher.. All the rating is, is a average of all the players level of talent.. the more athletic packed teams will have higher ratings than a good shooting team, especially because conditioning is the most rated attribute (in 2004 it had 5 ratings) so young strong and fast players will have high or show "overrated" ratings.. like Amare Stoudamire should have a over rated rating, steve francis as well. Since people don't normally associate athletic monsters to basketball they overlook that when they see a rating of 94 that doesnt mean they have the best players to put the ball in the hole or win ball games. But anyway, if you are a true bball fan you should know that any NBA team can beat any NBA team.. less bobcats of course.. RATINGS ARENT IMPORTANT, knowing each players best skills are
notice some interesing points: Yao's birth place is written as: Beijing, China Mutumbo trade not done yet, and the game won't let me do it... (Chicago is not interested in your offer). Does it mean we gained in the trade?
Thanks, since I have Madden 2005 and NCAA 2005 I'll just go buy those two, copy the receipt, take the games back, and send in for my freebie. Thanks again!
Haha, you stole my idea. I bought Madden already, so I'm just gonna buy a copy of Madden, copy the receipt, and take the game right back about 10 minutes later. Then I'm buying NBA Live next week. I can get either FIFA or NHL. awesome.
Back to the topic.... Got the game. Love it. Offense is hard this year (THANK YOU!). Franchise mode rocks, especially the scouting of draft picks. All in all, very cool. I just wish my network adapter was working so I could get the updated rosters. Guess I'll have to wait for Geek Rosters to put them in max drive format.
Is this the first year that they actually put that scouting rosters in Live? i haven't played live since like 99 so i am used to 2K5 having it.
Just got the game earlier today, and me and all my friends have been sitting in my dorm for about 4 hours playing it. Love the game man, it's a lot better than last years. That annoying hop step isn't as effective so no more of that "hop step into the lane and dunk" stuff. You gotta actually work for your points. On a side note, the finally made Francis the right skin tone!
I am tempted to pick a copy of this up....damn video games. Taking all my money. My Wish List right now... 1. GTA San Andreas 2. NBA Live/ESPN 3. Rome Total War 4. Sims 2 those are the ones off the top of my head.....there are many more.
The game doesn't seems to be "that" difficult, once one learned basic way of calling plays. Especially if the fatigue is not turned on (by default it's off), you can full court press all game and players won't feel a thing, make defense lot easier. After I found way of exploiting P&R, my McGrady really shines. He can average 40 points in a game (since my Yao get injured ). Even for a basketball game noob like me, it's easy to blow out other teams at starter difficulty. After turning on All-Star difficulty, then I actually have to work on getting the W. After Yao gets back hopefully I will get used to this difficulty and turn on the final one.
Doesn't it have the sliders that you can adjust to make it that much harder? I remember my 2004 has it. Also....you are happy that Yao is injured?! ..................
