does any one else think this is just stupid to have these nights (like tonight for the rockets) where the jersey say "los rockets" "el heat" "los suns" etc?

i mean it makes no sense its not like making the word "los" appear on the jersey makes it more latino

i think its fine if they have different theme nights to celebrate the different parts of the world but its not like when they had chinese new year etc they had a chinese character on the jersey

i dont know who at the nba office thought of putting this stuff on the jersey but they looks down right ridiculous if you ask me

i have nothing against having a latin night, canadian night, chinese night etc but dont change the jersey unless its something that really reflects that heritage you are trying to celebrate

i mean the suns had los suns on their jersey not like el sol or something

    /end rant

in all honesty i completely agree with you. its a veiled attempt at the nba pandering to a demographic that it feels is underrepresented in the league. its a completely empty gesture in my opinion and the fact that they have "los suns" written instead of "el sol" or whatever it would correctly be is a testament to that.

I agree with the OP, I would of rather had "sol" then just "el sun". Just adding el to all the team names is really damn lazy. If they're gonna do it, they should do it all the way. Or don't do it at all.

i don't agree with you... here in argentina nobody says "los soles", nor "los cohetes", it sounds lame.. we say "los rockets", etc... and there are some other teams like the knicks who have no translation. how would you call them?

and personally, i really like the latin nightt

While we are ranting about Noche Latina night

I'm at the game now, its halftime, in general they half 15 mins before the start of the 3rd qtr, I find it stupid they have a halftime performance by recording artists, because once they have their equipment setup, they have 12 mins left to sing, what, 1, 2 songs max? Perfect example tonight, La Mafia, sang 1 song, stopped in the middle of their second song and the players are shooting while they are singing. This isn't the super bowl dammit...

Back to the subject, its just a way to get more fans somehow. Can't wait for asian themed nights, oh wait, that happens already with Chinese New Year games....

I would call them 'The Knicks'. I don't see how changing the name makes them any more Latino than they already were.

Latin night is okay. The Spanglish is not.

true, we don't call them that, but I think it'd be a lot more interesting to see a jersey saying Cohetes than one that has a "Los" lazily squeezed in...

and for Knicks... just call them pantalones hahaha or what about "Lompas" for short? :p

You know if the NBA does Native American Nights... they don't really have to change anything for most teams. Well, maybe they can add a present progressing verb before the team name.

    Case in point:

    Fighting Celtics
    Dancing Cavaliers
    Hurting Clippers
Play like girls Mavericks (not present progressive)
    Flopping Spazz
    Aging Spurms

    etc etc etc...

I've long thought this about the NBA's expansion efforts, especially the global expansion. The way they do it, there's an element thats just a little out of touch. Its like they readily assume that the fans really support them diversifying their product. And the go ahead and have blatant marketing schemes toward their self interests with that "support".

Yeah, its cool having a bunch of different demographics. But no one's begging the NBA to be multi-cultural and spread the game into China and Europe.

"Wouldnt be cool for the NBA to play European teams, and enter them into the NBA?" No, not really? lol

We have women criticizing the NBA about how they're marketed to, me complaining about their global outreach, got a complaint here about the latin nights. Plenty people complaining about the All Star festivities. NBA is either unfairly a lightning rod for criticism (perhaps), or they're just not doing it quite right (possibly)

It's just the NBA . . . I'm starting to notice it is manifesting itself in the NFL as well.

But often ask myself, beyond the purpose of money and revenue, what is the purpose of having a NFL go global?

I'm glad they didn't. I'm all for promoting ethnic diversity, but do they really have to have a special jersey made? And "Los Rockets" just sounds stupid.

Whats really stupid is "ene be a"= N-B-A. And why do latin nights have to be Vs non-playoffs team. Marketing at its best.
