Not sure if this has been discussed in here, but I have been thinking about the idea of an NBA farm system a lot lately. Wouldn't it be nice if each team had a "minor league" team playing simultaneously as the real NBA? I know this is bold move we're talking about here. It would essentially phase out in the NBDL league, change the setup of summer league rosters and perhaps ultimately change the way roster moves are made in general for the NBA. Think about it, if there is an injury or something wouldn't it be nice to deactivate the injured player and bring up a player from your developmental team for a "spot start" (like they call it in baseball). If there is an injury, I would much rather bring in a guy who is in playing shape and hasn't been sitting around waiting for a phone call. Also, it would be a great way to develop talent and prospects. It would also give GM's trading leverage since they own the rights to certain players that are grabbing attention, it gives them more bargaining power. Any thoughts? I'm kind of just throwing this out there for discussion.
Stern is moving toward it, has openly said that it is his intent, and is more than likely talking up the minumum age issue simply as a tool to get the union to agree to the minor league system as a compromise. If they set it up right, it would be great. The NCAA will be royally opposed, but f them and their sham 'student athletics' cash cow. Evan
when that happens they will also do away with the injured list. we will only be able to carry 12 players on our roster.
Nope. All the teams are based on the East Coast, mostly south. Cuts travel costs down by a big margin. Evan
